This should start an argument

I made up a spreadsheet to calculate the weights on my rig when I go to Florida. Below is the calculations part of it. The overloaded section has been corrected but I was just wondering what any of you thought about traveling with the overloaded condition.

Yeah, this should get everyone going. You've probably already thought of this, but is there stuff you haven't needed/used in over a year, that you can leave home?

Yes, it’s already been taken care of

I'm sure more folks will drop by with their thoughts. The humorous side of me says, fill it up with 5000 helium balloons! Lol!

The only problem I see is you don't have diesel engine and will not be able to get out of the driveway.

Dumb question, doesn't your hitch weight count against cargo on the truck?

I have seen rigs rolling down the road that must be 5 to 8K overweight.

Yes it’s total cargo weight. The truck can carry 6,500 lbs of cargo.

I wouldn't do it....., especially when a CAT scale visit confirms manufacture weight limits have been exceeded.

IMO ignoring and exceeding manufacture specified weight limits initiates unknown variables into one's towing experience..., especially during less than ideal towing conditions.

If you were to get into an accident your fault or not, and there were serious injuries or God forbid a death, it would be easy to prove (your post here) you knowingly travelled over your vehicles weight capacities especially if your user name is indeed your real name. Your insurance company may ditch you as well in a claim.

Please calm down, the spreadsheet was doctored. there isn’t any cat scale readings, I was just curious what others thought.

We are spending November at an Escapees RV Park in Bushnell, FL (where we will see for the first time our new legal address that is on our drivers licenses and tags). They have something called "SmartWeigh"..

https://www.escapees.com/education/smartweigh/

... where they weigh not just every axle, with and without the 5ver hitched, but every WHEEL, left and right. Not sure how they do it, but I have this vision of pulling up to the lot with some volunteer in a safety vest and like a 100 bathroom scales littered about.

I'm actually looking forward to it because I feel that we are pretty close to maxed out. Previous CAT scale measurements have us within limits but not sure about axle and pin weight distribution.

This should start an argument

Probably getting a kick back from the Ram, Ford, Chevy and GMC dealers in the area who will have a rep there to help with your new truck purchase. Kidding of course. Not a bad idea though.

As a former commercial driver, and somebody who also has a rig/truck close to max, a few observations:
1. Ignore the airbag comment; does NOTHING for axle load capacities except ADD their weight - just smooths out the ride a bit;
2. Your hitch weight is included in the overall trailer weight so you can SUBTRACT that off your axle weight max's. Assuming you have two 8,000 lb axles = 16,000 lbs for them.
3. Go to a CAT scale with your normal load and full fuel and weigh the unit BY AXLES; first only the front axle and compare to your manufacturer specific max for your unit,
then truck only - that total less front axle = rear axle; then pull unit on and get the combined weight of both truck and 5vr. Total minus truck = 5vr; a check can be made of the 5vr as you pull off - leave only the trailer on the scale and the numbers should match or be very close. Keep the CAT scale receipt for proof.
4. Driving with any axle overweight voids your insurance and leaves you liable.

Why show it start an argument? The answer is simple!
1. If you care about what the manufacture says the weight limit is, don't tow it.
2. Leave some weight behind, usually water.
3. Buy a better tow truck.
See, simple
Thanks for allowing you silly GAME.

I run a 375BHS with a 3500HD. The trailer and tow vehicle weight limits are there for a reason. please stay below all of them. for various reasons listed above, including insurance coverage. Please consider this, your drive train is rated for specific tolerances, brakes, inter coolers, transmissions, etc, etc, by overloading your are overworking these. Now for my favorite, tires, keep the pressure up to spec. change them every 3 years regardless of mileage, I suffered 2 blowouts one from over weight and one from old age. lastly I go to cat scale every time I head out. $10 its worth it.

Couldn’t agree more! I tow with a half ton and am always acutely aware of my weights. I would never knowingly tow with my mfr weights exceeded. Too much to lose with little to gain.
