This was disappointing

So my wife and I are off on our 1st big adventure in our 2018 RKDS. We drove to Brunswick GA from our home in NW PA where we dewinterized and spent our 1st nite in our camper since last summer. I had no hot water and no propane heat as the temps dropped into the 30’s overnite. Anyhow I contacted an excellent tech the next day. The problem with the hot water was a module, no biggie that can happen, but then he proceeds to tell me our furnace was just laying unsecured in there and no even connected to the exhaust. He said had we not had a bad regulator that prevented the furnace from lighting we may very well have had a fire. Shoddy workmanship is one thing but this kind of thing is just inexcusable. Fortunately we’re good now but this could have ended badly. Needless to say I am very disappointed in Jayco and Haylett RV. Live and learn.

Dealer should’ve checked that stuff out before you took delivery. This is one of the reasons a good dealer is important.

I don't think to many dealers do much more than make sure the systems work. If they had to double check every nut and bolt nothing would get done. I would blame this on Jayco since they installed the furnace.

That sounds disappointing all right. Must've been a long night.

We will for sure. We’re in Titusville this morning on our way to Key West in a couple days. My sole purpose for sharing my experience is that chances are my trailer was not the only one. Folks with new models you may just want to check that your heater is properly mounted and installed.

Very interesting about the furnace not being secured, in view of the fact that Starcraft (owned by Jayco) had a recall in 2015 for that very same thing. This sort of thing is simply bad and sloppy workmanship on the assembly line, IMO.

If anyone is ever in need of technical assistance around Brunswick GA, I highly recommend Barry Strickland. His service is excellent, he’s friendly and reasonable.

Not sure if you notified Jayco first about the trouble but they have been known to approve mobile techs to come out and repair units. Since your unit is under warranty and was properly repaired I would call Jayco and possibly get reimbursed for your expenses.

Thanks Fry, yeah same unit as ours. 2018 293RKDS. We love the layout and just about everything about this couples coach, I have no idea why they have discontinued it.

That's very disconcerting, a furnace not fastened down or hooked up to the exhaust. Fire AND carbon monoxide hazard.

[Sundancer, You are correct. No dealers take the time to check any of these items. They rely on the MFG. to send them quality rigs, Had a friend who has been a Jayco mechanic for many years. I can vividly remember the stories of incomplete and or shoddy workmanship. He has since moved to a warmer climate. When I purchased my 2017 RLTS I did checks on my rig and did not find anything major. A loose molding in the bedroom and a tiny drip from the water pump. I changed out the pump (dealer gave me a replacement) and repaired the molding. Knock on wood everything else seems OK 1 year later.

We started the warranty process today. At least this part went smoothly. The Jayco rep was easy to work with, and at his request We submitted pics of our invoice, the defective parts, and the furnace as it was when the panel was opened.

How about providing contact information. I like to keep stuff like that handy.
Thanks.

I have to strongly disagree with the above statement...our dealer Rhones RV in Cogan Station would definitely have found this issue...I know for a fact they go over every new RV with a fine tooth comb and fix all issues before the buyer ever does their walk-thru. Knowing who you are buying from is very important!!
