Tire and Hitch Recommendation

Hi everyone. If someone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!

Truck:
2014 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins, Automatic Transmission (3.42 rear axle ratio)
Nitto Ridge Grappler 37x12.5x17LT

Looking into RV:
2020 Jayco 30.5 CKTS w/ 16" Tire Upgrade and Morryde Orbital Pin

Based on this setup, what tires would you recommend?
Also, I believe since I'll be getting the Morryde Orbital Pin, I do not need a slider on the hitch. I believe I won't be able to use an Andersen hitch, but would need to get something like this?

See if you can get the hitch exchanged with a Reese Goose Box as part of the deal. Might even be able to keep the Morryde as well.

Hopefully the tires on it will be Goodyear Endurance. Jayco's using those on new units, as much as I've heard.

The B&W hitch you're looking at is great and what I'm running. Much better quality than the Reese that I was running previously. And you are correct, you don't need a slider with the orbital pin box.

I had a question on the tires on the truck. I'm looking at these BFG All Terrain TA KO2 tires...

35x12.50R17 @ 65 PSI (Max) has a load capacity of 3195 lbs. Stupid question, but what does this 3195lb refer to in context of the RV?

That’s the max loaded weight per tire it can carry at that pressure. So, 3195 x 2 would be the max weight you could see with your rear axle on a scale all loaded up. Most will run 80psi with a loaded fiver. What’s the max at 80, or is it a 65psi tire?

Is there a way to find out an estimate what the rear axle weight would be for the 30.5ckts? I was looking on Jayco's website under specs and did not find anything related to that.

You’ll want an E rated tire capable of 80psi for towing. Also, you’ll probably want something close to stock height or the FW will tow pretty nose high. It’ll be a little nose high at stock ride height anyway.

Your truck will have a max weight rating for the rear axle on a sticker on the door frame. Either that or the tires, whichever is less will be the limiting factor there. That weight is not how much you can carry, but how much the back end of the truck can weigh when on a scale. The hitch weight on that FW will most likely be around 1800-2000lbs all loaded up.

Bottom line, I’d look for an E rated close to stock size tire. Won’t look as cool, but it’ll serve you better towing.

So here's the deal with the height of the truck, I just purchased this truck and it already had Fox 2.0 Performance Series suspension lift. When I measure the front, it's 10" from top of tire to wheel well and in the back 10.5".
Around 61" from ground to top of bed and ~86" from ground to top of truck.

I looked on Ram's website and here are the stock heights so looks like i'm around a foot higher than stock.

Highest: 74.2"
Lowest: 73.6"

What would you recommend based on this setup?

Jpak, if you go with a stock LT245/70/17 BFG A/T, you will be fine. They do 3000 lbs @ 80 psi, which is what you will need as others have said. It may also help with the hitched-up nose-high situation.

You may be able to use the same rims, just as long as they aren't too wide for the stock size tire. Yes, your overall height looks to drop around 2.5", according to the comparison chart I used. Remember, the top of the tire won't matter, so you only loose 1/2 of the 5" difference between the tires.

I picked up a '17 28.5RSTS w/Morryde and brought it home yesterday just under 400 miles. I have a '16 Ram 2500 4x4 SB Cummins w/auto level, factory 5th wheel prep, Andersen Ultimate and stock 33.5" 285/60/20's. I had them take the new 16" Goodyear Endurance tires and wheels off my trade and put on the Jayco which raised the trailer a couple of inches. Even with that, the fiver is still nose high and I would not want taller truck tires.

It towed home great even in high crosswinds doing 65-70 in eastern Oregon and northern Nevada. I cannot endorse an Andersen enough. Quiet and easy to hookup. Plus I hang it on the wall on the wall when I''m not using it. I have heard good things about the Goosebox, but have no experience. In fact they weren't around yet when I started using Andersens. But I love what I have so not going to invest in something else.

Did you want a measurement empty? I currently have the 5th wheel hooked to mine. But I have measured it before we got our first fiver. From memory I believe it was around 58" from the ground to the top of the bed at the back. Although I have the factory air bags, so it may not be the same as a regular coil truck. Probably pretty close though.

I have the exact same 5th wheel you are considering, I can give you a number of things to be aware of: The 16" upgrade is very important to have, make sure if the spring shackles are not pinned in the lower holes of the spring hangers that you insist your dealer move them to the lower hole. Not only does this raise the trailer about an inch higher, it is critical for tire clearance in the wheelhouse. Several of us who received these units shipped from the factory with the 16" upgrade were set in the upper holes and the tires contacted the underside of the wheel well and caused damage.
As for your tires on your truck, make sure you meet the ratings for the truck's maximum load rating. Your 30.5 CKTS will have a GVW of 11,000 lbs with a pin weight around 1850 lbs when fully loaded (factory spec only lists dry pin wieght of 1540 lbs.)
As for the hitch, just be sure you check to see that what you are getting is compatible with the orbital pinbox and the wedge plate - not all hitches accept all wedge plates.
My setup is with a standard pinbox, B&W Companion Slider on an F250, so I have a slightly different situation. Also check carefully for the height of the trailer, the bedrail height and the associated clearance between them. I think on the 2014 Ram your rails are not exceptionally high - like the newer models are.

I use the Curt A16 hitch and the Sidewinder pin box with my 2018 RAM 4x4. I also use the 16" Goodyear upgraded tires on the 30.5CKTS. I use the stock 18" wheel and corresponding tire. I recommend you use a RAM suggested diameter tire on your 4x4.

As information, I also lowered the trailer spring mounts (raise the trailer) to help level the trailer on my 4x4. I also had an outfit in Kansas build me a custom set of rear coil springs to lower the bed height 2 1/2" that really helped to level the rig out.
