Tire Recommendation

My goal while the 36FBTS is in storage is, to remove the cheap Rainier tires. My goal is to mount Goodyear G614's.

Any recommendations on the Maxxis M8008 tires?

dalengail- you need to check the pressure rating on the stock rims as I believe the pressure for the G614's is 110psi and the stock rims are not rated that high. Could get costly if the rims need replacing too. Not sure what the Maxxis psi is supposed to be.

E rated 16" Maxxis are 80 psi. G614's are max 110psi.
I put 614's on my rig a few years back and the 16" rims were rated at 110psi. I run mine at 100 psi.

It is prudent to check because some larger fifth wheels with 16 inch rims are rated for E load range tires.

I do what Norty does. Every time I inspect the tires I get a big grin when I see "Made in USA".

The G614 are a good option. If you want to really solve tire issues, check out the upgrade to 17.5 inch wheels and tries.

If you want to stay with the G614 make sure your wheels are rated to 110 psi. Many are 80 psi. Mine were and by the time I upgraded to a 110 psi 16" wheel and tire, I was just as well off to make the move to the 17.5". The benefit of the 17.5" upgrade is that it significantly increase your load rating.

Thanks Guys! I know the rims have to be rated high enough to support the G614's. I am pretty sure they are. However, while the repair facility I have it stored at is going to be mounting slide room toppers in the next month, I have asked for them to pull one of the wheels to see what the stamp says on the back side.

I know the G614's would be the best of all worlds. But, does anyone have knowledge of the Maxxis M8008?

If you stay with 16" wheels, my opinion is there is no comparison between the G614 and any other tire in the class.

I have not owned them but know several who have and rave about them.
Doing research online points to them.

norty1, that's what I'm trying to learn. The difference in price by 100 bucks is getting my attention. But, then again, maybe I shouldn't even be thinking about that.

Do a little more research and you'll find that the G rated SailunS637 tire is also a very good tire with rave reviews and quite a few reviews on them by actual owners on rv.net. Yes, they're made in China, but this company has rated a TS 16949 certification, which ranks this company high in ISO Quality standards. It's the same standards my company needs to meet year after year if WE want to compete world wide and have a good reputation for quality.

The Sailun tires cost quite a bit less than the G614's which also makes them a tire worth looking at when replacing a G rated tire on one's 5er or TH.

I think the G614 is a great tire, I had them on my 2006 HR 37RLQ Presidential Suite, and would recommend them, BUT, now there is an alternative quality tire to at least consider also in the Sailun S 637. It may fit somes budget a little better, and you're not sacrificing Quality. Some tire reviews have covered 3 years now and I've yet to see a negative review.

Makes a HUGE difference to me also, I'm as American as one can be, but if we're going 100% American on everything you purchase , good luck with that. One can replace a G614 for less than 1/2 the price with the SailunS637...I'll save money on this ONE purchase and still get a high quality tire .(Will be 66 in July and now I tend to try to save money on what I'd call a major purchase when I can).

If your unit is equipped with the Rainier tires, they could be considered as such.

Not to disagree with any opinions here, but our "junk" Rainier tires made it from Seattle to Ohio and back this past summer with no issues, nearly 6000 miles inside of three weeks.

On another note, the previous trailer had new Maxxis tires and they made the same trip in 2014 with no issues. Given a choice, I would put new Maxxis on any trailer I owned.

17.5 inch wheels and sailun tires from Trailertiresandwheels.com. very happy so far. Tires came mounted and balance on the wheels. I had a blowout on the original 16 inch stock tow max tires and upgraded. The tire diameters of the stock 16 inch and the new 17.5s are virtually the same due to the lower profile hieght on the 17.5s.

We had the "great" tow max (power king) tires on our 5'er. We had one showing a lump, (separating on the inside) which we replaced before it could blow. Then on the same trip we had one blow and caused damage to the lower side of the 5'er. We then decided to replace all the tires. We were in the middle of traveling, so we ended up with Goodyear from Wal-mart. When the rest of the tow max were taken off, they all showed signs of separating on the inside. If we had not changed them all, I am sure we would have had another blow-out before we got back home. We are planning on changing the wheels and get some better tires in the next year or so. Our wheels are for only 80psi, and I would rather have heavier duty tires for the weight of this trailer.

We just recently took delivery of our 2016 Pinnacle 38FLSA and it also came with the 235/80/R16 Rainier ST's. We have a trip coming up in March and are planning to travel around 1800 miles round trip. Is the opinion of others here in the forum I should have them swapped to Good Year G614 before this maiden voyage. Or do you think it would be okay to swap them after this trip? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

My take is this... If you can afford to do it now, and plan to do it later anyway, then just bite the bullet.
