Tire upgrade

I have posted before that we are in the process of buying a eagle ht 29.5bhok. One of the options is 16in tire upgrade. Do I really need it? I have a 2016 Chevy 2500 hd crew cab (gas). Will i have ride clearance and level issues if we don't get it?

TIA

Definitely yes, always get the larger wheel option. Also the second AC unit too.

Mine came with 15" and I had to buy new 16" wheels and tires to get the trailer higher in the rear. The HT's trailers run low.

I assumed Goodyear, since the Endurance series is on the 5th wheels.

You quoted Mopar Earls post about getting the larger 16” wheel option and you said they were American made. Since he said wheel and not tire, I assumed you meant the 16” wheels were American made. I see you were taking about the tires. American made or not I was more curious about the wheel maker. I will be replacing tires this season and had considered getting new 16” wheels and tires as I have the 15” setup now.

We are also ordering the 29.5BHOK and opted for the 16" tires which will help keep the trailer more level.

We have the same truck DDBL cab- definitely go with the 16". Our 2017 27.5RLTS has 16" and we were still 1.5"high. Lowering the spring shackles brought us within .5"

16" wheels also give you a lot more choices of tires and load ranges.

I would get the upgrade. When it comes time to replace tires you have almost limitless options if you have 16" wheels. The trailer you have I would assume is about 10-12,000lbs. That is right in the range where LT tires or ALL STEEL trailer tires are pretty much mandatory unless you want to deal with blow outs, trailer damage, and staying under 65MPH.

While I trust the Goodyear tires on my 15" wheels and feel perfectly safe with them above 65mph (they are rated for 87mph), when it comes time to replace tires I will go to 16" wheels. Mainly to get my trailer more level but also to give me more margin with the weight ratings.

I have a 2012 351RLTS, I upgraded the 10 ply Goodyears to the Sailun 14 ply tires. Sure made a difference in pulling, it does bounce as much. The tire sidewall does not have that much give as the 10 ply Goodyears did. Works for me great!

I had many tire problems with the OE Goodyear Marathons, LR-E. I put Goodyear LR-G, G614's on 4 years ago and have not had a problem since.
My rig already had 16"rims with the capacity for the increased pressure.

I don't tow over 65mph.

I tow over 65 a lot. The new US made Goodyear Endurance tires are doing well so far. I have high hopes for them. Time will tell though. My Endurance tires are 16" load range E factory installed. If they turn out to be like the China bombs, I will throw US made LT tires on.
