Toilet issues

Hello,

We're having an issues with our toilet in our 361 REQS. From time to time it starts to back up into the toilet and then clears up after multiple flushes. Sounds like it is filling up, and when flushing we get some back splash while its in this abnormal condition. We're thinking its a partial blockage somewhere and had the black tank back flushed once already which took care if for a few days. Anybody else see the back slashing issue? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a partial blockage alright. It's happened to me on occasion. I dump a 5 gallon bucket of water down the hole and it clears it up by forcing the pile away from the pipe outlet. Probably too much TP and not enough water when flushing.

Hello to you and welcome to the forum.

As Berg mentioned, use plenty of water when flushing.

Make sure your tank vent is functioning as well. There could also be build debris in the piping. You'd be surprised what happens on the line.

Make sure you keep your black tank drain value shut, until it's full and your ready to dump it. If you keep the value open, the liquid will drain away and the solid remain, building up and potentially blocking the operation.

Thanks Guys, turned out to be another blockage in the tank. Bought a back flush adaptor to clean out the tank. Great purchase👍

Water, water, water! I've had the dreaded poop pile on 2 occasions; both times when boondocking and in a bit of water conservation mode. Not fun. We got to the point where we started doing our dished in a basin instead of the sink, and just dumped that into the toilet. Made life a =lot= more pleasant.

That's what we do also. Saves grey space and the soapy water can't hurt.

First thing I thought of, was a lack of water in the tank.

I recommend after dumping, add at least 10% clean water back in to the tank. So for a 40 gallon black tank add atleast 4 gallons of clean water. Better yet, especially if you boondock add 20%, so in my case 8 gallons of water. You, should never have the dreaded poop pyramid.

Mine will do the same thing on occasion. When flushed it burps back. I fill the bowl to the top and dump it down quickly. After a few times it'll be good until next time. I figured it is due to the 361REQS having a couple of elbows in the line to the tank. Thought about snaking my remote camera down there but then I'd have to really clean it.

Kind of like giving your camper a colonoscopy!

When getting ready to dump black tank, I fill it all the way full with water. Then dump, then fill black tank completely full of water again. I do this at least 3 times after initial dump.
After emptying for last time, close valve and add around 5 gallons of water to tank (thru toilet) along with chemical.

We have the same 5er as you. More water is the trick. Also we use a clear fitting on the dump fitting to be sure it is clear. We run water through the black tank flush line until it is clear. I would estimate it takes 10 minutes of flushing to get the water clear. Do this and your problems will disappear.

I only have the issue when coming to the end of a boondocking stint where I minimize the water usage as the black tank level is what moves us to a dump site. We go a bit past two weeks before dumping.

That's a long time between dumps. The two of us can make about a week between dumps. I tried it longer once and ended up hiring a pumper truck to empty the tank. Didn't want to go to the ram rod in the tank as that is a mess.

If I switched to a composting toilet I could stay out longer at a location

Gray tanks are usually less than 1/2 full when the black is near full. Conserving and managing waste & fresh allows us to stay out at a boondocking site for quite a while before we go to a campground and dump/flush/fill.

Thanks for the advice, we did purchase a back flush adaptor that has a clear section for monitoring the discharge.
