Tonneau Cover

When towing fifth wheel has anyone had issue with tri fold tonneau cover hitting trailer in tight turns or maneuvering into sites.

Is a roll up cover better?

I have had Extang brand Revolution covers on my trucks and love them. No Velcro or snaps super low profile and they roll up when not covering the bed. I have been out of town and found something big and wondered what I would of done in I had a trifold.

I have a trifecta soft trifold on F250 cc short box with pullrite super glide with the Reese adapter from for Ford factory prep puck to isr rails. Trailer clears tonneau no issue. The release handle on the pullrite hitch was a little too close for me on a turn and if trailer to truck was not level so I shortened it. No issues now. When we arrive at campgrd I pull the saddle off the hitch and flip the tonneau over the box. Hitch stays cleaner and dryer. We go for supplies put them in the back under the tonneau

My son has a tri-fold on his short bed Chevy. It is to close for me when in a tight turn especially on uneven turf. I went with a roll up Tonno Pro Lo Roll on my short bed GMC.

I have the Roll-N-Lock cover on my SB F250 and have no problems.

Short answer is yes. The tonneau does use up some space and if you aren't careful you can hit it with the trailer. It takes a fairly tight turn combined with a dip or hump. I never did hit mine and only came close once.

But, when we changed trucks I chose to not have a tonneau cover. Got a tool box instead. The kind that is flush with the rails of the truck.

I have a Bak-Flip cover on my 2017 F250 with a short bed. Only towed a couple of times, but so far I haven't even come close to hitting it and I have had almost a 90 degree angle while backing the trailer into my driveway. I also am using the Anderson Ultimate hitch with the ball on the highest setting.

I have the Retrax roll up. Love it, even though its not 100% water proof it secures valuables in the bed of my truck from the honest thief. I just roll it open like a garage door lock the handle to keep it open when done hauling close it. I had to turn over the release handle on my hitch to allow the cover to close but no problem. They aren't cheap but in all my years best truck accessory I've ever bought. I'll have one from here on out on my truck.

We have the Extang tri-fold and have not had any issues while towing - including when we were partially off the road to avoid a deer. Truck & trailer had damage (total of $6,000) but not the cover. We have not had to make any adjustments for the handle while the top is closed.

We are looking into changing to the Extang Encore so we can get to items stored in front of the hitch.
