Top marker lights flash, hooked to shore power

Why are my front and back upper marker lights flashing every 5-10 seconds when hooked to shore power? 2021 317rlok

Hi DWestcott. I see this is your first forum post... Welcome to Jayco Owner's Forum from New Hampshire.

I did a google search "rv lights flashing" and found loads of people reporting this but none seemed to specifically say much. LOL
Here are some tips you might consider at this link:
https://thecampingadvisor.com/rv-lig...en-plugged-in/

LED's are very voltage sensitive so things kicking on and off, especially at a campsite can trigger that if their voltage is a bit low. I've seen it when I use a dimmer with a non-dimmable LED. We travel to Florida each year and some of the campsites we stop at have electrical problems such as too much or too little power and often we find there is an "Open Ground" fault. When a problem is found, we are warned before our camper is damaged and request a different site before we setup for the night. There are a few devices you might consider to protect your camper. We use Power Watchdog.

Ask your campground manager if they have another site nearby and switch. Hopefully that blinking stops.

That's crazy. Shouldn't be any power to them unless connected to the tow vehicle. Do you have a Camera installed? I've read they pick up power from the lights somehow.

You can power your camper's running lights intentionally using a fuse in your 7way plug.
I agree with Frosty22 that it is amazing these lights come on at all when your truck is not connected. I presumed the problem was the campground's pedestal.
If this happens at every campground/campsite maybe the problem is a short at your camper's power Connection or maybe it's related to a camera! Yeah

Truck is not connected at all. It’s plugged into my 50 amp plug at my shop. I just bought this camper and got it home.

This appears to be a wiring problem. I now suggest you seek advice from a local RV Technician; someone with experience with a camper's wiring.

I'm no technician so I don't know which wires to check. Taking your camper to a dealer that does service work is one option, but you might get it fixed faster with a mobile technician. Do you know a local mobile RV technician? If not, you could try calling a nearby RV dealer and ask for the name of an independent RV serviceman and ask him to stop by.

Alternatively, you can find someone through one of these links:

My bet is that there is a poor ground that the lights are connected to. Being you just purchased the RV I would try to have it fixed under warranty however, if there is no warranty or if you simply desired to correct this issue myself, I would run a new and separate ground wire from the frame of the RV (or battery negative) to one of the negative wires that these lights share in common. ~CA

If there’s a short between the aux12v power and the tail/running lights, that could cause this, but is it just the top markers or do the tail lights flash as well? I believe they are on the same circuit, at least they get illuminated by the same wire in the 7 way plug. I would open the electrical box at the king pin and see if there’s a wiring issue and then use an ohm meter to se if there’s any crosstalk between the those two wires. They are the two wires on either side of the plug alignment notch.

It’s just the 4 small lights on the top front and 7 small lights on top back. Does it with or without being hooked to shore power. Also when I plug into my truck and turn the lights on, that’s the only lights that come on. No taillights, turn signals or lower marker lights

No camera, I think it’s prewired for it

I definitely think there is something going on with the 12v trailer light wiring. When you plug into the truck and the top marker lights come on, I believe the rear tail marker lights should come on as well (at least they do on my 2023 355 MBQS).

Interesting, that they flash or it's intermittent. Could even be a wild Trim nail shot through a wire.

I don't think that's possible. They are two totally separate circuits that don't come in contact inside the trailer. If you shot a nail through the marker light wire, it would just short it out and the light wouldn't work. It would probably burn a fuse out in the vehicle if that happened. I know if you accidently short out the 12v Aux, it shorts a fuse out and will no longer charge the battery; been there done that.

Do you know if the bulbs are led bulbs or incandescent? The reason I ask is that LED's can light up and flicker for more reasons such as even a slight amount of current where incandescent bulbs would not do so. ~CA
