hyperactive, I tow a 2017 27.5rkds with a 2015 Silverado 2500HD. It's got the 6.0L gas engine and is 4wd with 2723 lbs of CCC. The FW tows just fine with the truck giving me 7 - 9 mpg on cruise control and in the tow/haul mode. I generally have the cruise set at 63 mph. The FW sets a little nose high. I have lowered the springs to the bottom hole and the FW has 15 inch tires.

Hello,
We started off with a 2012 Chevy Crewcab 4x4 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L After two trips, one to Las Vegas and the other to Port Aransas Tx. my wife and I decided that we just needed a 3/4 ton pickup. We're not diesel people so we bought a 2017 Dodge Ram Crewcab 4x4 with the 6.4 Hemi. Our first trip will be in March when we head back to Las Vegas for the Nascar Races.

This will potentially be us - a 2016 F350 6.7L diesel 4x4 with LT275/65R20E tires & 2018 Eagle HT 28.5RSTS with the 16" tire upgrade. Anyone with this set up? A down payment has been made on the 2018 Eagle HT, but they still need to evaluate our trade. Considering the B&W Companion OEM 5th wheel hitch for Ford Super duty prep package. Our load floor height combined with the cargo box height on our F350 comes in at 58". Dealer said the height from the ground to the Morryde pin box is 47". Will we be anywhere near level? Thanks in advance for your answers!

You can view my post and picture earlier in the thread. Truck and FW are in the signature. I have the same truck only in a 2017 F250 gas. Bed rails, 59 1/2” high.

Thanks or the nice suggestion Bud. I did upgrade to a 3/4 ton Dodge with the 6.4 Hemi. I'm not a desiel guy. Our first big rip is in March to Las Vegas for the Nascar Races.
Have a great day,
Chris

I have the 2017 F250 4x4 diesel but with smaller wheels. The bed rails are 57" and the bed floor is 36" high. I have the B&W Patriot hitch on the lowest holes (16" high in the bed). That gives me about 4" of clearance between the tailgate and the underside of the trailer. The front of the trailler is about 5" higher than the back of the trailer when towing. I only have 15" wheels on the trailer.

I don't know about the Morryde box or the Companion hitch. I would think the Companion could also be set to 16" high and the Morryde not that much different than my std box. 16" wheels and larger tires on your trailer should mean you will be near level, at least near enough.

I have seen multiple customers at our dealer bring HTs in with chevy 1500s and Ram 1500’s. I always ask them how the setup is working. They all tell me they haven’t had any issues and the trailers pull great. Most know they are over their max payload. Usually they have slider hitches and airbags on rear.

Not saying its ok but people are pulling HTs with half tons and they have had good results. I have seen a GMC, 2 Chevys and 3 differnt RAMs. All crew cab short boxs. All newer trucks.

We pull our 28.5RSTS with a 2017 Ram Cummins 3500 Crew Cab Long Bed. For the last 15 years we've had a Coachman Class C and I was worried about going back to a trailer. But this setup drives/pulls like a dream. Over the Cascades or the Coastal range, we've had absolutely no issues. It honestly is easier to drive than the Class C (and more comfortable too).

After 10k or 20k miles of towing ask them how their transmission is doing

My Tundra did great when towing, even in the western mountains. Brakes worked well, towed well at speed, pulled 6% grade at 65mph. But, after 15k miles of towing a less than 8k lb trailer the transmission was showing signs of stress. Instead of having it rebuilt I traded for a 3/4T.

If your in the process of getting your 5er I'd see about upgrading to 16" wheels and have them drop the springs to the lowest hole. Also raise the pinbox to the highest setting. If you don't do this you'll be nose high on you 5er.

Towing our 2018 28.5RSTS with a 2015 Ram 2500 with 373 gears and the 6.4 hemi. The truck handles the trailer nicely. We won't win a race to the top of the Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado with a diesel but we do okay. In more moderate hills and flat land the gas engine does very well. We average between 7 and 12 MPG but tell everyone we get between F and E...when we put gas in we get F and slowly it decreases to E. BUT when we put gas in we are right back at F again!

I have a New to me 2018 Ford F350 Lariat 4X4 6.7 Diesel pulling a used 2017 Jayco 28.5 RSTS. (got rid of a new F150 Eco because it didnt pull my 28' Rockwood 5er well at all) Pulls the trailer very nice and have been getting 18MPG around town in mixed driving unloaded with the F350 and and 11MPG while towing the 28.5.

I have a Reese Titan hitch, revolution pin box although not using or needing the wedge feature. Springs have already been lowered on the trailer and as far as I can tell by measuring the back bottom of the trailer frame to the road and then doing the same at the front of the trailer I have a 6" difference.

Slightly raked and I was worried my fridge maybe wouldnt work on gas while driving but our first trip it went well and beer was cold on arrival. Once my stock 15" tires are worn out I will be putting a set of 16" E rated tires on to raise it another inch.

On my truck bed I have 5.5" clearance at the front of the trailer and 4" at the back. Will have to go slow over those humps. May even at some point if I have clearance issues in the bed I may raise the whole trailer an additional 2"- 4". Anyone use the Lippert correct track system for a few inch raise on the trailer?
