I have a 2016 28.5rsts also and my tow vehicle is a 2006 Chevy 3500HD dual rear wheel duramax diesel. Overkill yes but I previously owned a much bigger trailer.

So, our rig is in my signature.

The question is diesel or gas. Diesels do not like stop and go driving in town. Bad on turbochargers (yes, I just bought a new one ). Diesels also have higher initial, maintenance and fuel costs.

What you get with a diesel is tow anywhere at just about any speed power/torque. Higher resale value, up to a point.

If you are going to do short weekend runs or one longer trip a year kind of thing, then I'd get a gasser. Makes for a better everyday use vehicle.

I would get a 3/4T or 1T SRW. If you get a 3/4T you may need overload springs depending on how the trailer loads the truck. Mine needed them, but, I am at the GVWR for my truck.

Hyperactive - Congrats on your new 5'r!

We just purchased this trailer with most all options and she's weighing in around 8,900lbs. I figure with some gear and a little water in the tanks and she'll be upwards of 10K lbs. We wanted to tow her with our 2015 F150 3.5L EB but she didn't have enough payload to handle the job, so we opted for a new 2017 F250 6.2L (see signature). Our maiden voyage is this weekend so my only towing experience so far is from the dealer lot to our house and then to storage (20 miles).
