The question is diesel or gas. Diesels do not like stop and go driving in town. Bad on turbochargers (yes, I just bought a new one
). Diesels also have higher initial, maintenance and fuel costs.
What you get with a diesel is tow anywhere at just about any speed power/torque. Higher resale value, up to a point.
If you are going to do short weekend runs or one longer trip a year kind of thing, then I'd get a gasser. Makes for a better everyday use vehicle.
I would get a 3/4T or 1T SRW. If you get a 3/4T you may need overload springs depending on how the trailer loads the truck. Mine needed them, but, I am at the GVWR for my truck.
