I have a 2016 28.5rsts also and my tow vehicle is a 2006 Chevy 3500HD dual rear wheel duramax diesel. Overkill yes but I previously owned a much bigger trailer.

So, our rig is in my signature.

The question is diesel or gas. Diesels do not like stop and go driving in town. Bad on turbochargers (yes, I just bought a new one ). Diesels also have higher initial, maintenance and fuel costs.

What you get with a diesel is tow anywhere at just about any speed power/torque. Higher resale value, up to a point.

If you are going to do short weekend runs or one longer trip a year kind of thing, then I'd get a gasser. Makes for a better everyday use vehicle.

I would get a 3/4T or 1T SRW. If you get a 3/4T you may need overload springs depending on how the trailer loads the truck. Mine needed them, but, I am at the GVWR for my truck.

Hyperactive - Congrats on your new 5'r!

We just purchased this trailer with most all options and she's weighing in around 8,900lbs. I figure with some gear and a little water in the tanks and she'll be upwards of 10K lbs. We wanted to tow her with our 2015 F150 3.5L EB but she didn't have enough payload to handle the job, so we opted for a new 2017 F250 6.2L (see signature). Our maiden voyage is this weekend so my only towing experience so far is from the dealer lot to our house and then to storage (20 miles).

We will be picking up our 2018 27.5 RKDS next Wednesday and towing it home with a 2007 Silverado 2500 HD, with towing pkg, Z71 pkg, plow pkg, ext. cab, 6.6 ft bed and 4.10 gears. It has a Vortec 6.0 liter, 6 speed tranny and is a 4X4. It has towed our 34 ft. Palomino Puma for the last 4 years without any trouble at all, even in the White Mountains.

We have a 27.5RLTS which is lighter than yours and a loaded, scaled payload of 2400 lbs. You will probably exceed this! If you want to stay within Mfg's specs you more than likely will stay away from a 3/4 ton diesel (check sticker on drivers side door). Another consideration is the new HD trucks , like the Ford are higher and you will have issues of being nose high on the 5er.

For us we settled on the chevrolet 3/4 Gas (dbbl, 4WD) ,( Sticker 2733 lbs.) fits in the garage, and averages 10MPG. The truck has 20" wheels and the 5er has 16". Right now we are 1.5" nose high- but we will lowering the spring shackles soon. Pulls great !

any 2500 hd or 250 will do. Your rig is a half ton tow. But I would not trust that. I pull mine with a 2001 gmc 2500 hd 8.1 through the tn mountains with ease

Our 28.5RSTS is due 8/14. The TV is a 2017 GMC Sierra HD Denali. Changed the order to 16 inch rims based upon above thread. Thanks for the heads up.

Could you please report back after your trip. Looking to see how your new 5er rides on the new truck. would really appreciate it.

We're back from our maiden voyage to the coast and130 miles of first timer fun! I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the way the 5'r handles with the Andersen hitch and the Morryde pin box/king pin. Everything just swivels off that pivot point. It didn't feel like the trailer was pushing me around. We passed a few semi trucks and I didn't even notice. I'm giving this trip 2 thumbs up!!

We took our first trip pulling our 28.5 RSTS with our 2008 Toyota Tundra Crewmax and a pullrite superslide hitch and everything went great . Averaged about 9 MPG at 65 MPH.

Taking delivery of our 2018 HT 28.5 RSTS this week. Upped the tv to a 2016 250 super duty Lariat 3.73 rear 8 ft box, screw, gasser. Had a 2014 150 Platinum screw 3.31 rear, eco boost twin turbo. Not nearly enough to tow the HT. Yes, they all say half ton towable, but personally I would rather have more towing capacity with a 3/4 ton.
