You would catch it when you do your initial pre-trip checks.

The 7 round latches into place so as not to be able to fall out.

Both if those things are correct in a perfect world but that is not where we live. People do get in a rush and forget to check things. Even though the plug has a latch they do wear and sometimes they don't latch completely. If you are around trailers as much as I have being in the boat business for over 40 years, you will see both things happen more than you think. If you think you are immune to doing either or both you are going to find out differently some day.

And if road debris hits the cord the cheap plastic cover breaks off as it pulls out. Happened to me. A chunk of snow fell off the truck and did it. So no brakes in the snow. It was dark so between the trailer lights and the c on the controller I knew right away and pulled over. But without the cover I had to tie it in.

Yup, things happen beyond our control. All we can do is try to be as safe as possible.

Hey Half Ton, just looked at the specs on the 27.5RLTS and you have almost 1000 pounds before you’re maxed. You just can’t go hog wild loading up your trailer. Keep in mind that you have to add up the weight of your passengers, the 5th wheel hitch, all of your gear plus the 1500 hitch weight. That total number should be less than the 2500 which is on the yellow door sticker. You should be in good shape!

Here is a list of the factors that affect tow rating and brakes are listed.

You are correct that a 3500 has larger brakes than a 2500 and a 1500 smaller still. But to say it is to stop a larger load without a trailer makes no sense. Why would that affect tow rating if nothing is being towed? The article above lists all of the factors that go into tow rating and brake size and material is definitely listed.
I apologize to Kway3 for continuing this thread heist, but you are posting false information.
A diesel 3500, and 2500 have the same brake master cylinder, front, and rear brake parts, axles, and driveshafts. The only difference is the suspension, thus a different yellow sticker.

On a diesel that may be true but not always on a gas truck depending on brand and year. Of course the suspension is different.
