Our rig is very similar to yours and it's been working just fine.

Check the tire pressure recommendation on your truck. On mine, even though the tires are identical front and rear, Ford recommends 60 psi in front and 75 in the rear.

Thanks Rayco! I am probably over-thinking this whole deal with the new fifth wheel! With our 28 foot travel trailer, I had way more truck than I actually needed. Now I’’ve got ‘just enough’ truck, but just want to be safe and have fun traveling—that’s the goal.

Congrats on your new 5th! We just returned from a 6 week outing and had a great time. Our 5th is a bit heavier (abt 13k# with 3k# on the pin). You’ll find the 6.7 does a great job pulling, the engine is an “OX” and loves to pull. I finally decided I had too much squat and installed Timbrens. They’ve done very well and I notice no change in the ride and have removed just the right amount of squat.
Hitting the CAT Scale is an excellent idea. I’ve made 3 Scale stops, the first time I felt like the jackrabbit that wandered into a buffalo herd. By my third visit I acted like I knew what I was doing, just an act mind you.

My “little” F250 only drops about 2 inches at the back wheel, but looking into something like you’ve got—either Timbrens or SumoSprings. We’re taking the new rig out camping next week and plan to hit the Cat scales one more time to get a “fully loaded” pin weight and also a combined weight of both truck and trailer. Had a very nice truck driver help me the first time—he could tell I was 100% clueless!

An unexpected benefit from the Timbrens was that hitching/unhitching became quicker. I don’t have to extend/retract the landing gear as much due to there being less squat. I seem to notice it more when unhitching. Before I had to grind what seemed like forever to get the plate to “unload”.
I expect that any solution that reduces squat would provide the same benefit tho.

For future reference. There are several sites on the Internet that will help figuring what a vehicle should be towing. Most vehicle can tow much more than they should.

Thanks for th heads up on the bed rail clearance! I’m going to a big church parking lot in the morning to get some practice with this thing. We’ve towed travel trailers for years and never had any issues, but these fifth wheels are a different animal! Appreciate the advice!

We have a 2018 30.5 CKTS and was pulling it with a 2006 Silverado 2500HD gas 6.0......towed it pretty good but struggled on hills......recently replaced tow vehicle with new 2019 Silverado 2500 HD 6.6 Duramax.....hills no longer a issue no air bags.....timbrens......leaf springs needed we also have the 16” tire option...😊........
Anyway here’s a picture of the actual weight of trailer. Full of water and food.....beverages......
We also have a 5.5kw Onan Marquis generator. Used my tripod on front scale and both axles on rear scale

The weight I have to pay close attention to is GVWR, which is 10,000#’s for my F250. The empty weight of my truck, with full fuel only, was 7,860#s. Staying under 10k is doable, but can’t be too rambunctious with loading everything we own!

Yep, used scale on hwy 20 towards Anacortes. Always closed weekends but they spin the heads around so you can see. I later was told that in the State of Washington it’s illegal to unhook on a scale??? Not sure if that’s accurate or not.
