Smile Toyota vs Siverado

I know a lot of you folks are going to think I'm nuts, but I traded my 2008 Silverado HD 2500 Diesel for a 2011 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 engine and the SR5 tow package. I couldn't be happier. It drives like a car and has power to spare. I tow a 2001 Designer 29 ft. and have no problems even in the hills of southern Missouri. Perhaps I'll be sorry some day but for the moment I am thrilled. My wife didn't even complain. LOL

Very similar milage, about 17 mpg. and no stink from the diesel fuel. Another issue is, I live in a fairly small city and there are no diesel pumps that you can pay at the pump. Minor issue but still a pain.

I would be happy with either one of them! It looks like we may pay through the nose this Summer for gas or diesel no matter what we drive with all this Qaddafi stuff going on! -Lee

You did WHAT with your Duramax Diesel??? There are some nice people in white coats that will help you with your "condition", Myles. Just kidding.....hey, its whatever "floats your boat" or in this case "pulls your Jayco" that's important.

Same truck here with a 5.7L. Pulling my 22FB, my mpg increased by one over the 4.6L I had. I have a Keystone Outback 227 on the way, so that will probably drop, but among all of the 1/2 ton trucks out there at this time, I really think the Tundra is the most capable(IMHO). Plenty of HP with a 4:30 rear end, it will pull a pretty hefty load.

I too would love to own a diesel. Currently running with a 454 GM and can pass anything BUT a gas station!

Miles, what is done is done, but for what is worth, I Love my Tundra. I never owned a Diesel. But for an all purpose, daily truck with lots of power and then some, Tundras are pretty awesome IMO.
I know folks that pull 31 feet TT and even 5th wheelers with Tundras (though I would not recommend) and are happy with their performance

Dont stress yourself out over that decision, especially if the wife is happy. Dude, you did right! :-)

That is because of the diesel particulate filter... and the burn off they require.. but a diesel will always have more torque than a gasser...

towing capacity of your truck is 10500. What is the weight of your 29ft fifth wheel? My guess would would be your testing the limits of your truck. I don't think Jayco ever called a 29ft Designer 1/2 ton tow-able. I would also look at the weight rating on your tire's.

The 2000 2931RKS I had weighed 11,400 I think.

I had an 07 Tundra with the 4.7 engine and it pulled the camper just fine, but I never went very far. The camper is heavier than the truck is rated for, but I'm still not pulling it very far but wouldn't be afraid to. It is an awesome vehicle.

I hope you are never involved in a crash and the people you hit sue you because you overloaded your truck beyond its ratings. I don't think your putting a safe truck and trailer combo on the road. It may well pull it fine but can it stop it????
