Trim pulls Away while Hitched

Has anyone experienced the trim flexing to the point that the plywood shows while hitched to the truck. When released from the hitch the trim goes mostly back into place. Trying to figure out why this is happening. Has something broken inside like a support or something?

Sounds like you potentially a major crack. Have you experimented with the amount of weight you put on the hitch and put on the “nose” of the camper? As you S L O W L Y lower the camper on the hitch, you’re adding stress to the nose frame supports, do you hear any creaking aka metal being stressed?

Try an inspection camera, slide it in the area that flexes and look for anything that looks suspect….

What do you have for a 5ver? Year and model #.

There have been a number of people who needed to have new longer screws installed in this location. That might just be the problems.

I would make sure it is sealed to keep the arched enemy (water) out

Search the forum for “separation” and a number of posts will come up with the fix that has worked for many of us.

That’s a good suggestion

They just fixed ours at the factory. Just found out today it's ready. We'll pick it up Monday. Also had the "sidewall crack" fixed at the same time. The fix was described as - install 4" screws and weld in steel gussets and aluminum gussets. This is the third time our overhang separation has been fixed. Good Luck.

Welcome to the club. I have had my trim repaired by the dealer and it failed again. I then put about 4 4 inch screws in each side, failed again. I now have replaced all screws with 3 1/2 inch screws into the metal. So far after 1 trip and 300 miles it held. Will see when I take it to Florida in December. Extremely poor Jayco design.

Just had mine repaired too with longer screws. I fully expect failure at some future time.

Just repaired my 2018 28.5 RSTS this past weekend. Will be going about 500 miles tomorrow. I'm interested to see how it does.

My 28.5 RSTS goes in July 13 for the 4 in lag bolt repair, hope it works but not real confident. Really thinking about a different camper.

I have a 30.5 MBOK. Same issue. Dealer put in longer screws under warranty. So far so good.

Happened to my 2018 Eagle HT 28.5. Under warranty dealer put in longer screws. So far it has held. Worrisome. Had a 1/4 sag.

If that trim only separates when hooked up I personally think you have a structural issue. Keystone had the same problem several years back.

We just got ours back from Jayco service in Middlebury.

It looks like we got the deluxe treatment.

We had both the sidewall crack and the trim separation.

They removed the first 3 or 4 feet of the sidewall (To about a foot past the front of the slide) They installed aluminum gussets behind there, made a new section of wall there. Then they welded in thick steel gussets on both sides of the trailer above the propane tank bays. Also more steel reinforcement in the overhang/pinbox area.

The body work looks great, can't find a seam. Nice caulking and decal application.

I don't know how long the trim screws are, but they all appear to go in at an angle, instead of straight up. It seems that they screwed it into a nearby steel beam, instead of going up into the aluminum above. Not sure of that, but know that there is a steel beam in that area.

Yep. 30.5 MBOK here. Happened to ours on the left side. Dealer repaired it under warranty. When I picked it up I asked if Jayco would do the right side as well, even though it had not separated. Dealer said probably not. They called when I got home and said Jayco agreed to preemptively cover the fix to the right side as well!

Good luck. Hope your dealer goes to bat for you as ours did.

I have an out of warranty 2019. Was your still under warranty and covered? Do you mind sharing the cost? I did the longer screw solution and it lasted about 1000 miles before the issue began to resurface. The gussets sound like an important component to fix it permanently.

Ours is now officially out of warranty, but reported and in the shop before warranty expired. In fact, it's still in the local shop for other warranty work right now.

No cost to us, so we can't help you on that.

I have seen on these blogs that some people go to truck/trailer shops, and get good results for less money. I'll try that next time.

If I were you, I'd still call Jayco customer service and see if there is still some coverage on the frame. If that doesn't work, call Lippert.
