Trip insurance

Could use some help, direction on trip interruption insurance.
I have never seen this topic discussed. This is our first extended stay trip for 2 months and approximately 3,000 miles. Mostly in the US southwest.
We bought a new truck and pinnacle fiver last year. A 2017 pinnacle 37rsts.
We are on our first extended stay in our rig as set up.
I have been somewhat concerned about the RV and breakdowns on the road.
It is not the RV that has been the problem.
Its the truck that BROKE !! The pinnacle has been great with some minor cosmetic issues.
The truck, a 2017 GMC 3500 denali, Duramax, CC, LB, dually. Blew out the rear axle. Had caught fire and the wheels were literally falling off.

Not the problem I expected on the road.

It took the dealer in Longmont CO. 10 days to get a new axle and get it installed.

So after 10 days I am out over a $1000.00. GM has been miserable about reimbursement. If GM does not do the towing then you are not eligible for their trip interruption insurance, or assistance.

My truck is 13 months old with 17,000 miles, and under warranty.

My Question. Do you have trip interruption insurance and where did you get it. Lesson learned and now I want to get insurance for our future trips.

We are still on the road for the next 3 weeks or so. We are still in CO and will be heading to Moab in a couple of days. The Jayco has been great and we are loving the road and retirement. Still love the truck.

At 69 I understand that stuff happens. The difference is how the MFG, corp. stands behind their product and how they treat their customers.

GM failed miserably to deliver at any level.

Thanks for any feedback direction you can give me.

I've never heard of trip insurance other than for cruises or a stay at Disney. In these situations the total liability is know (cost of cruise or time at Disney) so I'm not sure how trip interruption for a truck or RV would work as far as the insurance premium and reimbursement is concerned. I'll be watch the thread to learn more about this.

The "poll options" are missing, IMHO, an important choice..........how about "never"!!!

The only times I have purchased trip insurance is for Disney (they seem to include it in every package) and once on an organized tour (again as part of the package)

I'm not even sure where you would go to purchase independent trip insurance.

I would think that the insurance would reimburse you for out of pocket expenses while your TV or RV was being repaired.
ie: lodging, food and all expenses while you are stranded and until you are back on the road. We lost $150.00 on reservations that we had that we could not get to. Plus 10 days of food and lodging. In excess of $1000.00

AAA travel service reimbursement

2008 Seneca,

Thanks for the reply. I am a long time AAA customer. In fact it was AAA that towed me in and then relocated the RV for me.

I was told that the only reimbursement from them would be for a trip planned and bought thru them.
ie: Plane and hotel, cruises. Not for rv.

Have you collected from them before ?

Thanks for your response.

Norty 1,

did not know how to add " never " which seems to be THE answer from everyone.

We have not filed or collected from them. DW insists on paying for AAA disbelieving I can properly maintain our vehicles.

My question is wasn't your problem covered under warranty? $ 1,000 for warranty work?

I had trip interruption as part of a benefit program through AAA but bought the extended warranty on my Jeep and it included a $400 of trip interruption includes motel, meals and rental together. Not a lot of coverage but at least something to cover a weekend until the dealer can get started.

ps bought my jeep plan through a dealer in Indiana who beat the local dealership by a mile, they do that a lot. If interested (jeep/dodge only) I will look up the name.

I do not purchase travel insurance per trip, however, I do have Allstate Motor Club, which will cover expenses up to $1500 for trip interruption (incurred in the 1st 72 hrs) for collision or mechanical breakdown

I see it’s been edited to add it. I have friends who travel on cruises and often travel in Europe. Like the card, they don’t leave home without it. Good Sam is pushing a policy but to me it’s not a expense I’m ready to take on.

We always get trip insurance anytime we book a cruise or a stay at Disney. When the kids were younger our concern was not being able to travel if one of them got sick. Now that we're older and have some health issues that could sideline a trip we get insurance for these trips. They are relatively expensive trips and if an illness forced us to cancel we would not want to take a total loss. The insurance is relatively inexpensive.
