Truck Tire Problems
Good evening, all.
I know this forum is for fifth wheels, but we need some help and info for our tow vehicle. We have a 2020 F350 6.7 diesel dually and are pulling a 2022 Northpoint 310 RLTS. The rig weighs a bit over 12k dry with a hitch weight of 2810 lbs. The max cargo weight for the truck is a bit over 5300 lbs. We know we are probably over 13k with what is in the rig (we need to find a scale), but the truck supposedly is rated to tow a 25k fifth wheel. I do not believe we are over cargo capacity at all. We have maintained proper tire pressure.
The problem we have encountered is that the belts on new, OEM Michelin LTX M/S2 tires are starting to separate, on both the back and the front. There are only 5k miles or less on the tires. If it was just a load problem, I would think the rear tires would have a problem. But why the front ones as well?
Please send questions, thoughts, answers, suggestions!

Sounds like just bad tires. That trailer is not even close to working your truck and/or tires. Take the truck back to where you bought the tires from (or any Michelin dealer) and get them replaced under warranty.

Very sorry to hear that. Just picked up a factory-order 2024 F350 DRW with Michelin LTX MS2 tires so will closely monitor.

I would look for warranty replacement, either with Ford or directly with Michelin. Something isn't right.
Also the front tires have just as much weight or more than the rears just because of the weight of the engine and truck.

Unless you have been riding with them at severely incorrect tire pressures, the load you stated is not even close to taxing that vehicles abilities and at 5k miles they should still look new.

I re-read and its a 2020 truck, Michelin may pro-rate new tires. I would get them inspected at a Michelin authorized dealer ASAP.

Yea, that may represent a problem. Dallas does get a bit warm but they shouldn’t separate in 5 years and 5k miles. Michelin may balk at doing anything under warranty due to the age. My next question is 5k miles on a 2020 truck in Texas where everything is spread out? Wow. That redefines low mileage.

What is causing you to think the belts are separating? Did you have a tire shop look at them? Probative questions!

Been running Michelins (OEM size) since new - 2020 and zero problems. Tire pressure is key and having a dually helps with weight. Any CAT scale will help you to weigh - truck stop.

Have you checked the date code on the tires? Could they be out of date tires put on the 2020 truck?

That’s a good thought. I’d love to see that date.

You suspect you might be overweight. Almost any truck stop on an interstate has a truck scale. While not as good as "4-Corner Weights" you can at least confirm you are under 90% of the stated GAWR for the truck and RV when fully loaded. with the FACTS we would know what the most likely cause of the tire problem is.
What is your normal tire pressure on each tire before you travel?
