I looked for the wheel to wheel running boards when I was looking for running boards for my truck. Could not not find any for my truck, seems nobody had them, that's why I went with the wheel step.

Step Ladder

Thought about the tire step until I saw the price. For a Jackson $ less you can buy a nice two step stepladder which can be used to do side windows and all of windshield safely. Personal choices. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-2...ight/558040826

I don't think wheel to wheel running boards would help with a long bed dually.....do they? Maybe if you have 5 or 6 ft long arms

I have a step that I used Most of the time. Folds flat in the basement storage. But it's 8 feet away. A long way when you're in a hurry. Then I stepped on a wheel spoke, slipped and scratched the fender with my belt buckle. Now I Always use the step. 8 feet got a lot closer.

They fold up real nicely and I just carry it in the bed of the pick-up so it's a lot closer

Many ways to get high, that is with our trucks. The step idea sounds great. I am short(and feel the tug of gravity) and enjoy carrying in the bed a two step aluminum ladder. It allows me to check the oil and fill the def tank.

I have one identical to that one also. I use it for my semi truck as well as my 3/4 ton.

I used to chuckle about the tailgate step, too. Now I wouldn't own a truck without one. Karma I guess...
I've got one of those tailgate steps also, call it my "Old Man Step". Wouldn't have another truck without it. It's a lot safer for us old guys, don't want to get hurt, takes too long to mend.

Thule Tire Step

I use it....when I remember I have it in my truck bed.
Although I don’t have a 5th Wheel, I do have a similar tirestep I use for loading kayaks & such onto my ladder rack. I originally bought it for my suv for $50 (about 15 years ago). It now sells for $90 and is called THULE 232 STEP-UP WHEEL. It comes with a nylon strap that goes around the tire and collapses for easy storage.
Would love to have the ‘wheel to wheel running boards’ but until my original ones rust out I’ll have to make do with what I have.

Simple is best

I just carry a little two step ladder up against the truck cab. It stays in the truck all the time and is useful for a multitude of things.

And that probably is the easiest and most versatile solution. One of those smaller tri-fold ladders can also be a good choice. They can be used in a variety of positions, even like a scaffold.

I have a long bed dually and I stand only 5'8". I used to use a two step folding step stool, but it was more for indoor use and eventually rusted and was unsafe. I bought the same tire step from Amazon for about $33 and wish I had done it sooner. It is so much easier to use than the step stool. I also use it on the front wheels when changing the oil and fuel filters. It is so much easier to climb up and be facing the bed or engine without using a step stool and having to twist sideways to get in the bed or to do something under the hood. Well worth the money!

Good info! I plan to buy a tire step now. My 18 ram long bed has wheel to wheel steps so I use those to reach into the bed and to work the hitch. But the tire step would come in handy for engine bay stuff.
