TV Tire Recommendations

I'm looking to replace the factory Firestone Transformer tires, LT275/70R18, on my 2014 Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4 with supercab and Cummins and would appreciate your recommendations on new tires. I've been looking at the Michelin Defender LTX M and AT2 series, and between those I'm leaning towards the M series. I would definitely consider other brands. Thank youClick image for larger version

May be a Ram exclusive but they aren't known for wear. I just want to put on a good tire before we travel any distance.

Ran Michelin for at least 20 years on all of my vehicles. They were great until the last 3 sets . Obvious reduction in quality from what they used to produce. I'd blame it on my vehicle, except I'm talking 3 sets on 2 different trucks. So, you can rule out an issue with a specific vehicle causing my problem. Very short tread life, checked sidewalls, difficult to balance, etc.

My final straw with them was a complete sidewall separation on a 265/70/17 LTX MS2. Michelin admitted flaws on that model for that issue and recalled a bunch of tires due to it. However, they didn't recall the 265/70/17. They told me to go pound sand when I asked if they would at least consider covering that tire under the recall or assist in warranty coverage for replacement. They have received the last of my money.

Here is the link to the recall information. My tires were manufactured during that time but unfortunately not considered part of their recall.

I have all my trucks on Firestone Destination or Bridgestone Dueler tires now. Couldn't be happier.

I have the Michelin LTX A/T 2 on my TV as OEM from the factory (see sig for TV year & model).
I only have ~28,000 miles on the TV and the Michelin's are starting to show signs of early wear.

I'm looking at the Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar as a possible replacement for my Michelin LTX A/T 2.

For what it's worth.
Good luck.

OP, The tires you have are Firestone Transforce. I agree, not known for great longevity, but they are a brute of a tire. I've ran them exclusively on my fleet 3/4 and 1 tons and I've never had a failure over about 12 sets and probably 400000 hard miles. There was a set of Michelins LTX A/T 2's on my F350 when I got it- they were junk to me, constant flats and 2 sidewall failures. Wear was no better than my Transforce either.

I put Transforce HTs on my motorhome when I had it and just put them on my F-350 a few months ago. They are my go to truck tire.

Tires are an expendable item to me. I do not want a super hard rubber compound that will last 80 thousand miles. I would rather a softer compound that will last 40-50 thousand miles.

I just got rid of the passenger tires on my F150. I looked at the Michelin, and after seeing Midnightmoon's testimonial, glad maybe I didn't buy them, besides the expense. Ended up with a set of Cooper light truck tire.

Will see how they do.

The OEM Transforce tires that come stock on the Ram are not the same as the version you would buy at the tire store. Don't know if you had the ATs or the HTs, but neither last very long. I milked my stock HTs to 22K mikes. For replacement I went with a BF Goodrich AT KO2. It's a good looking tire, with plenty of traction and low road noise for what it is. I just rolled over 62K on the odometer(just over 20K towing according to my EVIC), and I still have half the tread left. I would have gone with another highway tread tire, but I got stuck once and had 2 other close calls while boondocking out in the desert/forest.

I'm going to be going with cooper at3 when my toyo's wear out. I've ran them on my wife's Tahoe and never had an issue in the 5 years/40k miles they were on the truck, even still had lots of tread and no signs of rot when we sold it. I did some light towing with it and they were stable.

I am running the BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO2's on both my 2010 Suburban 4x4 and my wife's 2010 GMC Canyon Z71 4x4. Extremely tough tire, load range E, very quiet on the highway for an all terrain tire, but also extremely capable off-road. I just checked and yes, they make it in your size.

In 2008, I needed a set of tires for my TV. It was a hard sell for the salesman to get me to buy anything with "Firestone" on them, but he convinced me to try a set of TransForce AT's. Well, I went 50K on that set without even a flat tire so I bought another set. Last October I traded the TV with about 45K on the second set, still great tread and zero problems. My new TV has factory Goodyear's but when it is time to buy tires, I will be headed back to Firestone.

Put Cooper Discovery AT3's on my truck last year and have been very happy with them. Nice ride, their quiet and feel great when towing as well.

Tires

I just replaced my Michelin AT2 with the Michelin Defender LTX M & regret the change but it was the only tire available without ordering and waiting - the defender is not as stable but a bigger irritation is that they pick up rocks and release them at 50-60 MPH

Other than those who have already provided input, anyone else out there with experience with Cooper tires? I'm thinking about the HT3.

I had cooper AT3's on my last truck, and will go with them when my current tires wear out on my newer truck. They were great, stable long lasting tires. My parents also have them on their current rig, as well as one other family member

I had the AT3s on my Suburban when I used to tow with it. Since I no longer use it for towing I put Cooper Discoverers on it to get a better ride. The LTs ride a bit rougher than the P rated tires. I was happy with both as far as traction, treadwear and noise.
