Unusual tire wear on 2018 Jayco 5th wheel

Hi, I have a 2018 29.5BHOK 5th wheel and on a trip right now. Tires were in perfect condition when we left (about 1300 miles ago). Had wheel bearings repacked before leaving. Noticed that front tire on passenger side had completely worn to the wear bars on outer 3rd of tire after 1300 miles and rear tire, passenger side showing similar wear on inside 3rd of tire (not quite as bad as the from tire). Any thoughts or others with similar experiences? I am bringing it in for service tomorrow. Could this be an alignment issue?

Yes, sounds like alignment. Carefully inspect spring hangers and bolts at all ends of springs. You might have even "flipped" a spring by going over a big bump or turned real short. That's when the end of the spring end shackle by the equalizer flips on top of the equalizer.

Question, who repacked the bearings? they may have lifted the TT by the axle and bent it. I would advise the service shop if you did not pack them and do not know how it was lifted.

I知 dealing with this on a trip too. Passenger side front outer 1/4 down to the wear bars from Texas up into Wyoming. I swapped it for the tire on the spare tire rim in South Dakota and no noticeable wear so far as I知 back in Texas. In my case though, all the other tires are just fine. I値l be curious to see your final results on this. Good luck. Throw the spare on there or get them swapped rim to rim and avoid the collateral damage of a blowout.

Hi and thanks everyone who responded. The rear tire was toed out (bent axle). The axles that come on this thing brand new are 5200 pound rated. The place where I’m getting it fixed has 2 x 7000 pound axles on order. I’m replacing the second one just for good measure. I know the 5200 pound axles were probably engineered for this trailer but when the total carrying weight capacity is over 11,000 pounds seems like maybe they cut it a little too short. Thank you all for the replies and input.

Thanks for the update. I値l be in the same boat I suspect. I知 still under warranty and mine took 5500 miles to wear down from new, so hoping that値l be evidence enough that it came that way. My new tire showed no abnormal wear between South Dakota and Texas.

How much is the axle swap costing you?

I don’t have an exact price but it would likely be about $1000 per axle or $2000 total. New ones are 7000 pound to replace the axles rated at 5145 lbs.
