upper shock mount direction

Hello, I am looking at installing shocks on my eagle 30.5 CKTS fifth wheel. My previous Jayco 277rsb had the upper mounts towards the center equalizer. Most of the on-line installs I have seen, all have them facing the center equalizer as well. The Lippert shock installation manual shows the mount towards the fixed end. Does it matter, or just follow the instruction that come with shocks.
Thanks for your time.

Rick

Yes, That's how most of the ones i've seen are mounted. Lippert components shows it towards the fixed end.

Thanks for the pics. I contacted Jayco about the location of the upper shock mounts. So far they replied with the frame layout, but it didn't have the locations on it. Waiting for reply back. They were quick with response to initial question! I also contacted E-trailer, waiting for reply.

Surprisingly, the axles are located the same distance from each other as on my 97 model. My 97 has the upper shock mounts installed from factory and they face towards the center. If all else fails, i could use those dimensions.

Looks like lippert is saying to get most performance, mount towards fixed end.

I went with lippert shock installation instructions mounting towards fixed end. I drilled and tapped the 4 hole unistrut connector at 45 degrees to the frame with 3/8" bolts. The strut connectors worked great for alignment vertical to frame and the holes fit the bushings.

The shocks eliminated the extra bounce. Definitely worth it.

We just picked up our 2021 30.5 ckts as well and I was under the impression that the shock mounts were pre prepped on the 2022. I have found the lower mount but not the upper one.

I was disappointed our unit didn't have the upper mount as well. it should be easy enough to do while being assembled, my 97 came with upper bracket.
I used a speed square lined up with the edge of fixed spring eye mount to located all the mounts the same.

Thanks for the reply are the shocks on a 45 degree it looks like it by the square. I read that 20/35 degrees was the optimum angle. ?

The Lippert instructions say the maximum angle is 45 degrees. I don't know what is optimum is, but the bottom mounting plate angle does look to be less than 45.
I used the speed square angle for speed and constancy and not having to make a jig to keep placement and distance all the same.
The shocks seem to be working well, the extra bounces are eliminated.
