Visual reminder for kitchen vent?

The vent for the stove/micro is still my weak-point when it comes to striking camp. 50% of the time I’ll overlook it and leave it open, which sometimes results in the vent filters blowing out inside.

Anyone have a simple visual solution to that thing?

I used to forget to pull my black rubber chocks until I put foot long fluorescent yellow “Remove Before Flight” ribbons on them.

I include them on my setup-takedown checklist, which I still check quickly each time.

Checklist is a good idea. I don’t have a list, but do two final walk arounds. One before I hitch and one after. That seems to get it all. Mostly

Edit: guess they can’t both be final if I do two.

Haha, guess not.

That’s what I do, too. Walk around. But I seem to forget to zero in on the vent even though I look up when walking around.

Put a ribbon on a clothespin, clip it to the vent when you open it.

As you do the walk around when leaving, remove the clothespin and ribbon and close the vent.

My problem is not forgetting to close it's getting to it to open and close. I can barely reach it on level ground.

Yep... Cant reach it to open or close it. it stays open, flaps with the most annoying noise when the wind blows and is still too far up to mess with. I've thought of stuffing a small chunk of closed cell foam in the opening to make the door stay open - even with the temps below freezing.

I have a vent in mine, but it's tied to the microwave/range hood. Does that have a spring-close that only opens when the microwave vent fan is turned on, or is it like the standard range hood like mentioned that has the tabs to close and open?

I, too, doubt I could reach it (or remember) each time we travel.

Totally manual, no springs. At 6’5”, I can just barely reach it.

Springs are an interesting solution, too. I think I’ll do some online searches for a retrofit, thanks.

At 5'8", I need a tire step just to operate the FW hitch in my TV. There is no way I'm reaching the exhaust vent for the kitchen hood vent. It stays open. I've never noticed any flapping in the wind. I'm a sound sleeper I guess.

I carry a light weight 5 ft step ladder with me that I use. It also works good on reaching anything inside also.

3 step ladder available at Costco/Sams.

Never takeoff or land without going over your checklist. Among other things, besides remembering to lock the vent, it keeps you from failing to hook some important item up when the neighbor comes over to talk to you while your trying to button things up without a list.

I leave the step ladder out under the nose & don't put it away until it's time to leave, at which time the ladder reminds me to close the vent. That's how I remember on my 377.

I have no list. But before I die e off, I always walk around out tt. I touch/tap every window, cargo hold door, frig vent cover, etc. I also inspect the hitch, look underneath for forgotten items. That is how I remember to make sure all is secure.

If I were just a couple inches shorter...

I’m 6’2” and can barely reach ours on level ground. If there’s a drop off at the back I climb up and stand on the rear bumper and reach over to open and close. We do have the rear kitchen model. Last camp site we were at the rear bumper was almost 4’ off the ground!

I used to use a check list but not any more. Wife backs me up and we both walk around the unit before departure. For me now the only thing I really concentrate on and that will really ruin your entire day is not getting the King Pin secured correctly. Everything else will take care of itself one way or another. We rarely miss anything and the vent is something I could care less about.
