Warnings of Overnight Frost

A first for us this season, had me scurrying around today.

First I opened the gray and black tank valves (already emptied), pulled the low point drains, opened the on board water tank valve, then opened all faucets and briefly step on the toilet flush. I remembered to include the outside shower this year. Once the onboard water tank was empty I briefly turned on/ purged the water pump. I don't touch the hot water tank, I just leave the downstream valves open.

I also closed all the windows and roof vents. I often open them up for fresh air. Then I plugged up the AC line, just to top off the batteries once again. Winter power cycle: a couple of days online followed by a couple of weeks offline.

A bit early this year but that's it for me; my typical winterizing living down south.

To return to service I only need to apply AC power, close all valves, add a bit of on board water, bleed out the air and I'm ready.

Ah to live in the south, where winterizing is so simple, and warmth will follow in no time at all.

I hear you there. I am lead to believe there are places where people actually use the air conditioning unit on top of their rigs as.

Here all this time, I thought mine was for looks.

I always thought it was some kind of ballast or keel to stabilize the RV while underway.

It was 22* in E TN yesterday morning and 25* today. LOL And I winterized most of the yard equipment today, still have to change the oil/filter in the ZTR, then I'm good. Hope to go fishing on Friday. LOL

Went down to 27 here last night and all I did was open the low point drains and outside shower. Not cold long enough to warrant any other action.

27 is cold enough to freeze water, though? I would think that is the danger zone.

When we had our first 5th wheel, many years ago, it was parked beside our house. Used mostly as a guest house, as we weren't able to vacation in it as we had planned. We just kept a small heater in it during the winter, and never worried about winterizing it. We did drain all the water out of it. Never had a problem with anything freezing up. Now we live full-time in a 5th wheel and never winterize it as we keep it nice and warm all winter and cool in the summer.

Cold enough to freeze water but there was no duration to the event. Warm enough during the day to have warmth built up inside the trailer and only went below freezing for a few hours during the night. So a hard freeze would not occur. Now if it stayed 27 for an extended time.....

In my mind anything below 60* is freezing.
Comfort zone starts at 78*.

YMMV.

LOL! I don't start wearing long pants until it's consistently under 50 degrees F. And sitting at a desk all day, I prefer it to be around 68!

Of course, I'm a wimp in the heat.

Funny how people get acclimated to a place. When we traveled the southwest the other summer for several weeks, I was surprised that I actually started to feel like I was getting used to the oppressive heat.

Living in NW Oregon, anything over 85 degrees is sweltering...
