Water filter
Has anyone moved their water filter from behind the wall where factory mounted it??
It is a real PITA to get to........thinking of moving it to outside of wall instead of behind it.

My filter is in the docking station. It should be very easy to move to wherever you want it. Probably will just need some additional tubing.

Agree real PITA to get to...guess whoever designed the unit didn't bother to try it out! Would be interested in knowing what redesign can be done. We already had a modification made to our docking station so not sure what can be done.

Removing the filter is one of the first things I do w/ a new unit. Cut the pex on either side of the filter, close the line w/ some sharkbite fittings and a short run of new pex. I then hang a blue Camco disposable filter off the hose bib at the campsite.
I see the supplied filter as simply another leak opportunity in my camper.

Today is a great day to discuss this, being April's Fools Day.
I think it is a RV designer thing, pulling a joke on everyone, or maybe they're just a crabby disgruntled worker.
They appear to look for the most out of the way location, that is nearly impossible to get to. Some MH's have them behind the drawers in the wardrobe, and you have to disassemble almost everything to get to it. Then you spill water everywhere as you try to replace the filter.
Ours is under our kitchen sink, only for the cold water. They permanently installed a false panel in front of it. In theory, you have to reach over the top of this panel, with just enough room under the sink basin, to get your hand in there. On top of that, it is behind the P-Trap so the sewer pipes are in the way. Very little room, cannot easily see what your doing. Never used it! To hard to get to.
Personally, I would buy hose to pipe adaptors and keep it outside the camper. Than way you can easily replace filters. Open it up and clean dry it, or toss the filter in the freezer for extending its life between trips. Best yet, if you need to winterize, you do not have to deal with it.

Mine is behind my docking station and has an access panel screwed to the wall. You HAVE to get to the filter every year for winterizarion and summerizing. So I took the panel off and installed hinges and a magnet catch on it.

Same here. Sharkbite fittings make plumbing easy.

Will take a picture of our bay because not sure how we would put it in there now. We have a water softener and the dealer ran water lines from the door side (in the 3 propane tank area) to the water bay.

Maybe you can install in with your water softener??
Think I can move mine to wet bay......will have to check later.

Perhaps that would work - didn't think that & will take a closer look once we dewinterize the unit. Attached is the water bay.

I don’t agree with your logic, you are still left with the same amount of connectors/connections...

Water filter 'pita'
If you are 2" tall you could probably get to ours behind bedroom drawers. Removed filter cartridge, left housing in place. Use hose blue water filters. We do not drink the campground water, use bottled water. Sanitize fresh water tank to use if necessary filled from our house. Winterizing, just use extra antifreeze to fill empty water filter housing..works great, no hassle..

I agree with Jopopsy. Although there are still connections remaining, it is far easier to make sure that static connections are water tight. But when dealing with a changeable water filter in a hard-to-reach location, the chances of spilling/dripping water goes up exponentially.
Keeping the water filter on the outside of the rig virtually eliminates any problems to the inside of the MH/5er/TT. Even if the filter drips on the outside, the worst that can happen is "watering the weeds".

...and the trick was to try and get it over the little half panel without spilling any water. I just knocked the panel out as it was ridiculous to try and get to in order to winterize. Finally went the short pex run with shark bite solution and I’m much happier.

Water Filter??
Oops? Does my 5er have a water filter? The manual said "if so equipped" and I never saw one so I always use an external filter on the hose bib. But reading about the hidden locations makes me worry. My 5er is a 2020 27.5 RLTS (actually titled as a 2021 because of Covid delay).
