Agree with herewego. No need to replace after 4 trips

Some folks drain, dry, and refrigerate until the next trip. Lots of folks replace it only once a year, regardless of the number of trips.

X2. We buy the two pack and usually only use the one per season, but have left it home, thus the two pack.

It would depend on the water you are filtering. In some parts of the country we have changed our filter after only a short time of use, because the water was so hard and full of whatever. When we notice slow water pressure, we check the filter. It is usually full and thus we change it. We always have a spare on hand.

Are you filtering after the pressure reducer or did you plumb it in for the cold water sink only?

I can see an argument for putting one in either one place or the other. Filter only drinking water OR filter everything to protect the whole plumbing system.
