water leaking under shower door in Eagle

Anyone else having problems with the thin plastic molding that goes in the bottom of the shower door to prevent leaks? We just replaced the insert for the second time and it is already coming apart. Without the insert in place, water leaks out the bottom of the shower door. The insert is a piece of crap and will never last

haven't been able to try my water system yet, but the molding seems to flex back and forth properly when opening and closing shower door. there is a small gap between molding and frame on top of door, but it's so small I don't think it will let water out. they aren't real high quality though that's for sure, hoping to dewinterize next weekend and can try it out. how much does the new insert cost?

The bottom molding is the one that causes the leak. It is a very cheap piece of plastic. Mr. Bontrager of Jayco says he has replaced his three times already. It is a fairly inexpensive replacement if you go to Home Depot. It is called a shower door bottom seal and cost me $2.85 with tax. This will be the 4th time I have replaced an original Jayco seal. The home depot version looks to be 500% better quality than the Jayco original. The top seal has gone also but it is not a problem leaking there unless you squirt a lot of water at the top of the door. That should not be a problem. Going to get the old one out tomorrow and put this much better quality one in and see what happens.
Thanks for your input.

Let me know if the better quality one fits and works better. If it does I'll probably get one just to keep on hand.

I just solved some of the same issue. I removed all of the rubbler Silicone. Then I got 2 tubes of GE shower and bathroom Silicone. Resealed the whole shower 2 times on both sides of the shower. No more leaks!

I got some of that GE silicone and went over every seam that was not siliconed from the factory. No more leaks!

I also made a seal from the bottom of the door by doubling over some white duct tape and sticking it to the door.

I just bought some one inch gorilla tape to do the same thing. However, after talking with Jayco, I went to home depot and bought a new plastic insert that is way better than the one Jayco provided. Gonna try that. If that wears out, they also suggested a bottom door wipe that is aluminum and fastens to the bottom of the door. Requires drilling a couple holes to mount it to the bottom of the door, but I'm going to try the new insert first. I have seen several responses about not sealing all around the shower due to the humidity underneath not being able to dry out. Supposedly, that is the reason it is not sealed all around. Who knows.

Well, more bad news! The insert from Home Depot does not fit. However, they do have a lot of "door sweeps" in several formats that may work. Several are the type with stick on tape. I purchased one of those and cut it to size and taped it on. Going to see how it works. Much better quality. If this doesn't work, there are several aluminum swipes to be screwed to the bottom of the door for a more permanent solution.

Are you having issues with the straight shower or a curved shower? On my 2011 I had to replace the silicone where the door frame met the base every year due to it coming unglued. Water seeps under the shower door frame and onto the floor. Driving over the road is what causes it to loosen.

Those bases seem to have Teflon in them because the silicone always comes off easily. A more permanent solution would be an adhesive caulk like 5200, but they don't make it in clear and it's permanent.

Mine is the straight shower door. They have a thin plastic insert in the bottom of the door. It breaks off after a few uses. Taped on a door wipe purchased at Home Depot and will see how that works next trip. Will be going out again second weekend in May, if not before. May go to local campground on the lake next week, time permitting.

I see it now. Perhaps a piece of straight rubber neoprene that you can attach to the base of the door would work. Check Grainger for something like this. Just heavier duty than what you have currently. I assume your talking about the sweeps on the bottom of the door.

Exact same problem wih my brand new Pinnacle. Jayco replaced, but I'm now going to see what I can find at Home Depot or Lowes. The quality of the door sweep does not warrant the Jayco name.

As you can imagine both bottom and top seals ripped quite quickly on our new Pinnacle while we were south for the winter. Like someone else I rigged a duct tape flap at the bottom until I can get it to the dealer in a few weeks. Very poor quality material in those seals. Not to reassuring if Mr. Bontrager is replacing his.

The dealer will not even have them in stock normally. They will have to order them and the quality of that material is very poor. Will not last more than a few opening and closings. I will be out next week and find out how my new door wipe works that I purchased at Home Depot.
