Question Water pump

I got up this morning to no city water, which we knew late last night, would happen. So first thing this AM (in my haze) I went outside and turned the water valves to "dry camp", because the campground was temporarily without water and we had filled our fresh water tank in preparation. Then I came in and used the toilet, the shower briefly, and the sink. A few minutes ago, I went back outside to switch us back to city water, then came in to turn the water pump off. HOWEVER, it already OFF and I realized I never turned on the water pump, but I still had water. Did I just screw up big time??? Please pardon my ignorance, but I didn't think we would have water from the tank without the pump being on...but we did. How did that happen? Outside water pump switch is off and inside was too! I'm confused.

That shouldn't work, unless gravity was still giving you city water as it drained. Something needs to pressurize the plumbing, either your pump (which you would've heard) or city water, usually delivered by gravity from a source above the town or campground.

After shutting off my system, I do have some residual use. Not enough to shower but mild sink and toilet use. Are you sure that the park shut off their water? You are right to be concerned, I would want to figure this out before it causes an issue. Repeat your scenario, verify your pump is not on and run water for an extended period (10 minutes). You should not have good pressure if the exterior water source is off and the pump is not running. I bet and hope it clarifies when you recreate the conditions.

Re: water pump

We are figuring that the campground water came back on
And I wasn't aware. It was probably city water and not
Tank water. I still need to recreate and retrace my steps
To verify. Thanks y'all!

Our trailer has two switches for the pump, one on the inside control panel and one outside near the control valves for the water. These are not three way switches. Both need to off for the pump to be shut down.
