Water pump loses suction

Water pump seems to lose suction after being unused for a little while. Somerimes less than an hour. Anyone had issues with a loose connection at the tank or maybe the suction lift is to high?

Is it just cycling after an hour, or does it actually loose the ability to pump?

If it cannot pump, I would start at the filter sceen right before the pump. It just unthreads, pull it out, clean the screen, check the housing. If it looks like it has small tiny micro fractures, the cup portion should be replaced. Check the o ring too. Replace if needed. See if that helps.

Also check you antifreeze bypass valves while at it, one might be cracked open.

Had a similar issue with my pump. The problem ended up being the antifreeze valve leaking by it's seat, and sucking in air. Try folding over and pinching off the tygon to see if this solves your problem.

Still having trouble with suction line to pump. Anyone know how to access the suction line connection at the tank?

My water pump suddenly quit pumping after arrival at a boondocking location a month ago. These pumps are self priming so I suspected a hole in the pump diaphragm. I needed the pump "right now" and Camping World had a location 9 miles away. So I picked up a new pump and had water again. There is a overhaul kit available for the old pump, but it wasn't in stock and I needed water now. Boondocking with the DW and no water doesn't compute. The new pump works great.

On mine I found it was some of the pex crimp rings that had loosened up. Recrimping them fixed it up..

I often have to "prime" mine; especially when winterizing. I open a faucet, then place a funnel in the antifreeze suction hose, hold the hose straight up and fill the hose with antifreeze (or water if you're just priming in the summer). While still holding the hose vertical, have someone run the pump and shut it off as soon as it starts sucking fluid from the hose. If nothing happens after about 30 seconds, you might have a pump problem. When winterizing, I refill the hose again before removing the funnel and try to insert it into the bottle of antifreeze as best as you can without letting air get back into the hose

FPMIII - Neat idea on using the winterizing hose to prime the water pump... Thanks...

My water pump hasn't needed to be primed yet but great to know there is an easy way to do it.

I've used that method myself when having priming issues. Beats the other option of sucking on a faucet.
I'm betting on a slight air leak on the draft side of your pump, allowing the intake side tobtrickle back down into tank.

Vapor lock? Is there a checkball or one-way valve or something in the system? It has to breath somehow.
