What TV would give better gas mileage.
Both would be crew cabs with standard box.
Ford F-350 SRW with 6.2 v8 gas with 4.30 rear axle compared to a Sierra 3500 SRW with 6.0 Vortec v 8 gas with a 4.10 rear axle. I will tow maybe 10% of the time so it will be the day to day driver the rest of the time. Will there be a significant difference between the two in the 90% day to day driving?

I doubt there would be a significant difference. Go with whatever truck you prefer as far as looks and ride. If it were me, I'd go with the Sierra lol...

The Sierra because of the higher gears.

I would guess both would be in the 13-15 mpg city and 17-19 mpg highway range. My father has a Ram with a 6.4l and 3.73 gears and is around those same numbers just depends on the wind, driving conditions, etc. Most HD trucks have low mpgs, as stated before get what's comfortable. I had a '16 Chevy 2500 work truck and loved the ride over the '15 F-250 I had before it, both were around those numbers I provided.

Whew, that's optimistic. Our 17' Silverado 3500HD 6.0 RCLB with 4.10's at work gets 11.2 average at best. Highway is about 14, city about 8.

I would assume that the truck I had had 3.73 and I didnt haul anything other than myself. I also drive super grandma in the work trucks(they have gps/ mph devises in the trucks). If I drove it like my personal I would think 3 mpg less on avg on both would be accurate.

This question is basically moot. It all comes down to are you a ford guy or a chevy guy or a dodge guy. These are all good TV;s and the mileage will not be a determining factor.

LOL I've been a Tundra guy for the past 12 years, but don't think they make one that can pull a fifth wheel-- so it's not really a moot point because I'm trying to figure out what "guy" I will be become based on other "guys " experiences. So if they both tow as well and one gets 2-4 mpg better, that could be a factor-- don't you think?

I would say to get whatever one you want, but I will still do my homework like you doing now, good luck.

Just buy one if you don't like it trade out and a different one.

I was always a GM guy until I test drive the Ram I own now. When I was looking to buy I decided to test drive all 3 diesels available and I just loved the way the Ram drove, the power of the cummins, and the interior was the most comfortable for me. Heck, my truck has converted 3 other GM guys and 2 Ford guys. Do yourself a favor and drive all 3 and see what's best for you, mpg won't be substantially different between them unless you have big differences in the gear ratio.

This is pretty close to dead on what I am seeing in my F250 6.2 with 3.73's

You must have lots of spare cash to throw away if you buy and trade out nearly new vehicles. I did it ONCE recently traded my 16 F150 for a 16 F250 for a better tow experience and the $$ hit hurt...

TV gas mpg
Neighbor and I took a trip to the Smokey Mtns, He has a 17 Ram 2500, 6.4, 373 gears pulling 2016 HT, I have 2017 F 250 , 6.2, 430 gears.
Our gas was within .5 mpg I averaged 9.1 his was 8.6 mpg ,, So it goes back to how you drive and what TV you prefer and where your traveling.

Larry Mac,
I have a 2015 Silverado - LTZ/Z71 - 6.0L gasser - 4:10 gears - regular bed.
I average 15mpg highway - 12mpg city - 8mpg pulling 31' fifth wheel
I suspect, the Ford is going to be about the same given similar situations.

Tundra guy??? Really??? Well I'm a chevy guy so they're the best [my mpg for the Duramax is 12-14 towing. My friend is a ford guy and he said they are the best and and pretty much get the same mpg as the others. Dodge?? I don't have any Dodge friends but I hear they are good too.
Good luck recovering from the Tundra shock. Do the math on an extra 2-4 mpg and figure total miles towed and you decide if that could be a deciding factor. LOL.

I started with a Tundra LB and loved it.
It got totaled and I decided to replace so I went with a 3/4 ton
I ended up with the Ford simply because the Chevy/Sierras hurt my lower back for some reason? Never had back issues before. However the Ford 250 is as bouncy "as all get out" and the chevies did have a smoother ride. The Ford 3/4 ton just has a stiff suspension and my wife complains about not being able to sleep while we are on the road but I really do like the truck and feel good about the purchase. Gas mileage averages around 12mpg but I have a heavy foot!!
