What type of wheel chocks do you use?

Bal X-chocks. We keep them locked so they serve two purposes; stabilization and security

One thing we do notice though, is we still have movement in the trailer when walking, so we still have to put down our "landing gear". I had heard that you didn't need the stabilizers when using the x-chocks. But with having a tt, it is nice to have the additional theft prevention lock for the stationary trailer.

The only ones I have ever used are BAL Deluxe Wheel Chock

http://www.dyersonline.com/Products/...rce=googlebase

I purchased them the day I picked up our trailer. No regrets. As said in the earlier post, you may notice some movement in the trailer, but much less than you would if you did not have any at all.

I use RotoChocks. They are the best, but rather expensive. I have had good luck with tweetys, here are their chocks. http://tweetys.com/wheel-locks-chocks.aspx

Yup! Those are the ones that we have! They are very nice! We bought the pair and the locks on Ebay for $85 plus shipping. It was a good price at the time.

Just got a pair of the X-Chocks at the end of the camping season. Am anxious to try them. If they work as advertised, they will help reduce trailer movement when set up.

Ok, I have to ask since I'm wondering if I was just having a bad day! I bought BAL chocks to use on 2016 Pinnacle 38FLSA. I liked that they came with a padlock for theft protection. Here is the thing, I could NOT get them to fit between my wheels. I had them as small as possible but no dice. Has anyone else had this issue with BAL chocks not fitting?

Rubber ones for the outside so the camper doesn't move when I unhitch, like these:

And X-Chocks between the wheels to help address stability

The solid rubber chicks from harbor freight are the best. The x chock helps movement but will not stop the trailer for moving. Don’t kill your self by thinking it will.

Since the topic is wheel chocks I don't think this is a thread hijack lol, but I'm curious if you are all using them the same way I do?

This is for a dual axle camper using 4 wheel chocks:

1. Park the camper where you want it, ensuring you are level side-to-side
2. Place a wheel chock in front of each trailer tire (just the tires on the front axle)
3. Jump back in the truck and drive forward a little so as to put pressure onto the blocks via the tires
4. Put e-brake on and put it in park then put wheel chocks behind the two rear tires of the trailer (even better...have your partner do it so you never have to let off the brakes)
5. Release brakes, allowing the trailer to "settle" into the wheel chocks
6. Unhitch as normal
7. After the tires cool down a bit, install the X-Chocks

This really locks the camper tires into place before I even use the X-Chock between the tires.

Credit goes to whatever video I watched years ago that explained it this way (that I now can't seem to find)

I have the Bal version. I like using them as they are simple to setup and not as dirty to handle when setting up or taking off.

But, they do not help trailer stability much. Using regular wheel chocks as noted above works better, but, still not great.

If you want less trailer movement when stationary then jacks or stabilizer 'arm's of some type work best. Screw jacks with a good solid base are the best, but, take longer to set up. I use the steel ones, a pair at the back of the trailer.

PS check wheel clearance before buying the Xchock types. Some trailers do not have enough space between the wheels to use them.

My wife and I are amused when driving in a cg and see someone chock their rig with a couple of rocks or a piece of firewood laying around, or even not chocked at all.

That situation is really scary, but we've seen 'em , too. If they're UPHILL from us, I lend them a couple of ours. We carry four of the Lynx, and four of the cheapo yellow guys. Most of our favorite places are pretty close to level.

I forgot chocks once and watched my trailer move back and the tongue jack slid off the block of wood. Only thing that stopped it was the tongue jack biting into the ground. I'm sure I looked stupid hanging off the tongue of the trailer yelling.

I rarely forget them now.

X2 I originally had a pair of the yellow plastic ones that the dealer had thrown in, until I backed over them and dropped my 5th wheel onto my truck bed. Never use those again!

I’ve got a set of those crappy hard plastic camco chocks. They shatter when it gets cold.

I wish when they build the trailers or 5th wheels they would somehow add an manual emergency brake on all 4 wheels or at least 2 of them just like on car or truck that u could set. I’m sure that would help more than the bal chocks
