Wheel psi rating?

Hi - We are scheduled to pick up our new 2017 Pinnacle 36 KPTS next Friday. It comes with the 235/85R/16 Load Range E Ranier tires (80 psi), which I plan to replace with Sailun Load Range G tires. Has anyone done this and kept the stock wheels for a Load Range G tire (110 psi)?

I think MagnoliaTom did this on his 377.

We did the upgrade to Sailun G's from GY Marathon E's (from factory) a few years ago. Our rims were/are 110 PSI from Jayco.

Might want to check your rims to make sure they are 110 PSI.

Will definitely check the rims when we change out the tires. Just looking for history of others doing the same upgrade to G rated tires. Thanks.

Problem?

What problem/issue is being addressed or fixed by going to a higher load rating tire? Is there a safety margin issue with the factory provided tires?

I did it with the 2016 Pinnacle 36FBTS I bought several months ago. Immediately replaced the Raniers with Goodyear G614s. I crawled under the unit and couldn't find the PSI, but the wheels were stamped 3750, which is the heavier wheel. Emailed Jayco customer service and never really got a positive answer except that the Goodyear tires were an option and mine didn't have them. Mine also came with the metal valve stems.

Schooner- When we upgraded to the Sailun's we had to buy new rims as the stock one's with the Rainier tires were only rated to 80 psi. I have noticed that the units that came in after ours had different rims on them but still had the Rainier tires. Your dealer or Jayco should be able to tell you what they are rated. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance of putting 125 psi tires on a rim rated @ 80. We bought ours from Trailer Tires and Wheels already mounted and balanced. The new rims are rated something like 4500 lbs.- a lot higher than the stock rims. Got to us in 3 days Fed-Ex.

Wheel Upgrade

Had to upgrade to a higher value rim, Jayco in there wisdom only put 80psi rims on, bit the bullet and got 17.5" rims from Trailer Tires & Wheels & Sailun tires from Kal Tire all wheels now balanced, look really good

Thanks

Thanks all for the feed back. I'll post a follow-up as to what rims came with the Pinnacle when we change out the tires.

I replaced my original Marathon E rated tires with Good Year G614's right after I bought it. Fortunately my wheels were rated for 110 psi.

I replaced the tires (G) and wheels on my Pinnacle 38 FLSA as the stock Jayco wheels were rated at 3580 lbs. I went to Sailun 235-85R16 all steel and I found a wheel which looks just like the factory ones. You can find the weight and/or max psi stamped into the back of the wheel.
Good Luck with your new tires!

OP here. I had the G rated Sailuns mounted yesterday. Tech commented that the Sailun tire alone was heavier than the E rated Raniers with the rim. The rims are rated for a max load of 3750 lbs.

Replaced the Rainier tires and wheels on 38FLSA with Goodyear G614 and Sendel wheels (almost identical look to original wheels), all ordered from Amazon..
Started out as a sidewall blister on Rainier. Tredit tire replaced the tire under warranty, when the replacement came in I was surprised how flimsy it was. That's what made me decide to replace all the tires, I just didn't have any confidence in the Rainiers... The Goodyear felt like it weighed at least triple the Rainier, very stout tire...

After lots of questions at the tire shop I kept my factory rims rated at 80psi and added the Goodyear g614 rated for 110psi but running them at 80psi. So far I have about 1k miles on them with no problems. With my tire pressure monitoring system the tires stay at around 95psi after they heat up and around 100 temp about the same that my towblows were running hot. Our trailer is only around 12k pounds loaded so it's over kill for our trailer but after both rear tires failing in the first couple years I was done with towblows and wanted something better.

Wow, I'm surprised Goodyear says it's ok to run the tires 30 psi low. Hopefully the tires don't give you any problems and if they do Goodyear will stand behind them. We have the Sailun H rated 17.5" 125 psi tires and were told not to ever run them below 120 psi but our unit weighs in around 15,000 lbs.

I recently purchased a North Point model and I did not trust the Ranier tires based on history, so, I kept the very low mile Goodyear G614's I had on my Montana that I was trading in. I called Tredit and told them which wheels the North Point had on it and they told me it would be fine to use the G614's at 110# PSI on the wheels. When I got the wheels off the camper I did see that they were rated for 3750# which is the correct weight to run the higher pressure.

Is anyone running 235/85/r16's on their northpoint? It comes with 235/80/r16's and I don't see the g614's in the 80.

Good call on swapping out to Sailun. I can confirm that the tires alone are indeed heavier than the rims and rainiers combined.
