Whirlpool Fridge

I have the same Whirlpool fridge in my Pinnacle that I had in my North Point. I was looking at the air filter which is at the top opposite the water filter and when I opened the lid to get to the filter, all I saw was a piece of styrofoam which can't be removed because it appears to be behind the entire assembly. Anybody else have the air filter in their Whirlpool?

Ours is the same. It looks like the styrofoam creates a channel for whatever airflow is supposed to happen.

Same. Rattles right there too. Didn’t know it was an air filter. Seems to work great so I haven’t messed with it.

So neither of you have an actual air filter? If you did, you can remove it and replace it.

No filter. I have an appt at the shop for mine next week. When I pull it out for that, I’ll have a closer look. I thought something was off with that due to the rattle and the fact the little door barely fits on there. The whole thing is bulging with styrofoam.

No filter but the same rattle TXLoser mentions. There is the same bulge or it just doesn’t look to be a nice fit.

Guess I never got the purpose of the filter given the frequency the fridge is opened. Arm n Hammer has been the standard Oder Control for us.

I have the Whirlpool fridge in my Pinnacle and I have never even looked for a filter. So now I'm curious about what is behind door number one. I am planning to bring mine home next weekend for some long over due mods and and a bath. I will definitely be checking this out. I can say that I have never noticed a rattle coming from the fridge in this area.

My air filter was delivered yesterday. I called Whirlpool and the tech said that the styrofoam is part of the assembly. She said to open the small filter door and snap in the filter. She also said that a filter comes with the fridge for the owner to install. The dealer probably tossed it. Worked just fine. My feeling is if there is a spot for an air filter then I want an air filter. Hate to have anything that is not utilized to it's full potential.......guess I'm just anal

No, you're OK Al.

Just checked mine and sure enough, the filter that I never knew should be there was there is missing. So were several of our freezer shelves, and that we have known about for some time.

So I will go to repairclinic.com and get both. I have been using them for years with good results.

Thanks for the heads up.

Angus, I was also surprised as to the "missing" freezer shelves. Called Whirlpool and they said the shelves were not missing. If you want additional shelves you have to purchase them! We purchased one........not cheap. I think we paid $79.00 for one shelf. I thought I bookmarked the website that I purchased it from...........they were about $20 less than anywhere else. This is my packing list:

I’m the same way. Where’d you get the filter. Direct from whirlpool?

Do you take the styrofoam out before putting in the filter? I haven’t looked at mine to know what it looks like.

Whirlpool told me the styrofoam is a part of the filter assembly and NOT to remove it.

Angus, I found the site I purchased it from........actually $68.00. It shows on the site that they are out of stock but I called and it was available.

Thanks, but that's still 30 frozen pizza shelves!

We will likely buy one OEM replacement and then I will find than old plastic cutting board and the skill saw...

Oh I really hate to confess this but as for the freezer shelves I am full time sitting for a few years and was NOT going to pay 70 bucks for a shelf or two. So I took the measurements of the shelf and headed down to the local Home Depot and bought two (GULP) white floor tiles that fit perfectly. They slide right in and I have not had a problem. Now when I finally get to travel in the trailer I will have to see what happens but for the last 10 months it has not been a problem and I think they were right around a buck each!
