Winterizing the water intake valve

I bought a used 2017 5th wheel last October. Apparently, it was not winterized correctly, since the pipe leaked when I tried to add water to the water tank when the blue valve was in the “fill tank” horizontal position. This year, according to the instructions, it said to put antifreeze into the system using a manual pump with the blue valve in the “city water” vertical position. Everything worked OK, with antifreeze coming out of all faucets. My question is, what is to protect the “fill tank” water lines and the water pump, if I don’t put antifreeze in those lines, just like I would put water in the tanks in the summer?

First off welcome to the forum. You need to state which 5th wheel you have since there are different configurations on different models. If you put antifreeze in the fill tank line via the pump that should address your concern. Not going to hurt the fresh water tank. Just be sure to flush and sanitize next spring.

Thanks for the reply. It’s a Jayco 29.5 RBHS. I did what you suggested, and I’m comfortable that I’m now protected.
