Xantrex Inverter operation

Do I need the inverter on while connected to stable 50 amp shore power (noisy)?

No, as long as you don't mean the converter, it has to stay on for your 12v power source. I've never heard of a noisy Inverter though.

It cycles on and off. I haven't timed it yet but have noticed it the mstbdrm while drinking wine.

The fan will do that even when off, it has an electronic transfer switch.

There would be no reason to run the inverter while you are connected to shore power.

Drink another glass or two of wine and you will not notice it. LOL

Happy RVing,

It's the converter that you hear cycling on and off, not the inverter.

I investigated the noise in my Greyhawk and it turned out to be the inverter.

As I mentioned earlier it has an electronic automatic transfer switch, not mechanical, that needs the cooling even on shore power.

That's the only time I've heard it. I haven't heard it cycling/running when disconnected from shore power.

I'm understanding the converter is at the load center with the circuit breakers/fuses and (my) the inverter is at the forward wall inside the cargo area overhead.

The OP is correct - it is the inverter making noise.

I have a Xantrax Pro 1000w inverter and the fan runs intermittently when plugged into Shore power - IT IS NOT THE CONVERTER IN THE AC PANEL! (I charge my batteries with solar so I keep the converter breaker off.) This inverter does NOT contain a battery charging circuit either. I have 100% verified it, I've sat and watched it as runs every couple minutes. The fan will cycle in hot weather and in cold weather, even with everything AC powered turned off.

This issue has been reported before and Xantrax acts like they never heard of it. Which tells me this is a design flaw that would cost them money to repair so giving people the run around is their only other option. Good thing to remember when shopping for large inverters.

It's in the owner's manual that it has an intermittent fan operation.
