I am just now hearing Wisconsin has shuttered all state parks, recreational areas and forestry areas. I think this is stupid because what about the snow birds? People stuck? Hotels open and you have to sleep on unknown hotel beds? Ew. This country does not have its priorities together.

Not all Wisconsin state parks, recreational areas and forestry areas are closed. Only 38 of them that are located in the south central and southeast part of the state and 1 in the northeast part, click on link below. All the states trails remain open. IMHO our Governor caused the closures by offering no admission fee/sticker required for a couple weeks. All camping areas remained closed but the weekend of April 4/5 High Cliff SP had over 16,000 day visitors many of which were not practicing social distancing and leaving alot of vandalism and garbage behind.

My understanding is that the WI DNR was the entity that made this decision.

Originally the Gov asked the DNR to allow open access to the faciliteis. According to the WI DNR site the Gov directed the DNR to close them, see link below.

No, no. I knew that part. My bad, I was unclear. I meant waiving the fee was a DNR decision.

I agree it was ultimately a DNR decision about waiving the fees. IIRC the Gov asked them to so that people had a place to walk, hike, get out and excersize.

It's entirely possible. At first that seemed like a good idea. But it only drew in thousands of people who most likely never set foot in a state park. Vandals! Thankfully the trails are still open.

I just got a cancellation notice from Rec.gov that our May 13-17 at R Shaefer Heard park has been cancelled, I am wondering about memorial day weekend and will they cancel it too.

I booked way in advance and chose the weekend before the holiday to avoid some of the crowd, I guess I might have made a wrong choice.

Oklahoma State Parks still open, but the state is not too welcoming of those from Louisiana, Cali, and the NY area. Anyone coming into Oklahoma from those places has to self quarantine and has a bunch of restrictions in the state park.

Drove from Wilmington, NC to Grants, NM (Fri - Mon).
No issues with campgrounds or rest area's. KOA's in Sallisaw, OK, Amarillo, TX and Grants, NM all open. Other than the usual weather issues this time of year a smooth drive. Rain (MS), 30-40mph winds (Amarillo) and snow storm about 90 miles east of Albuquerque....

Wow, so far out you would think that they would at least waiting until the first of May to see I was sitting here trying to look at some military bases that are open.

Michigan State Park Update....; All State Park campgrounds are closed through the night of June 21st.

The following Park Alert from the Michigan State Park and Harbor Reservations web site reads:

"To help slow the spread of the coronavirus and carry out Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s extended "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order, all campgrounds, overnight lodging and shelters are closed in Michigan state parks and recreation areas through the night of June 21. Most state parks, recreation areas, trails and other state-managed lands remain open for day use, although all locations have modified services and/or closed amenities through at least early June."

New York State Parks - All campgrounds closed until May 31.

I suspect it will be expended into June as I have not seen maintenance performed at local state parks near me. (removing downed trees/limbs, grass cutting, road repairs)

That really sucks. At least you can go boating. Here in Oregon our CG's are closed indefinitely as well as all boat ramps.

Michigan now June 22. Federal campgrounds here seem to be following the same in Michigan.

Yeah I don't get this. Tomorrow he's lifted the stay at home order and May 11th restaurants and such can open with 50% capacity. So now I can go into a restaurant and sit 6' away from somebody and potentially breathe their exhale but I can't go camping and sit 100' away from somebody. Sorry, I'm just cranky about this but I'll get over it, lol.

I cant help but wonder if the real reason the Governors are keeping their states in a "State of Emergency" is so they can get lots of Federal money. ( which comes fron us the taxpayer anyway).

I feel your pain! We had reservations in Brown County next weekend and now we have to reschedule! Camping is safer than being in any retail store or restaurant!
