Mostly correct.
The Virus is called "SARS-CoV-2".
If you get infected, the disease you develop is called "Covid-19"
Just like the HIV virus causes AIDs.
SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
You're quite likely to develop pneumonia.
Pneumonia is a big catch-all term.
Covid-2 causes some particular types of damage to your lungs.

Thank you - so many of us think about the effect of the virus on *us*.
This one's tough on the immuno-compromised, the elderly, the diabetics.
I think we should stop thinking about what an infection would do to us and start thinking about what would happen if we passed it on to Grandma, Lil' Timmy or Sue - who's on chemo.
If you think the public is over-reacting - read the articles from epidemiologists on Flattening the Curve.
That's a Basic Tenet of Epidemiology - and it's something every d**ned human on earth should understand.
These things are gonna be more and more and more frequent.
This too shall pass, but there's another one around the corner.
Be informed.
Be smart.

Most common cold viruses are from the rhinovirus family.
The media is NOT responsible for the hysteria.
I know this is gonna be tough for so many to understand - but, the truth is...
you are responsible for your reaction.
How about that?
You are responsible for how you react...
Maybe if we all took a little bit of that Self Responsibility our Boomer Generation is so darned proud of...

COVID-19 is nothing more than a bad cold. If you you have underlying health conditions, then maybe you should reconsider.

Nice.
Thanks for thinking about the person sitting next to you who happens to be a heart - transplant recipient and is on immune system suppressors.
Me, me, me...
And you're wrong too by the way.
But you won't care, will you?

You know the number of posts on all of the forums saying this astounds me.
Had I said "It's not my fault!!!!!! It's Bob' Fault!!!" to my old man, he'd have tanned my hide.
Yeah, maybe it's because I'm a Boomer.
If you're unaware of how Journalism operates - and has operated for 100+ YEARS, please google the idiom "If it bleeds, it leads..."
This is not new, this is the way things have worked for many, many years.
Said it before and I'll say it again - I AM responsible for how I react. I am responsible for how I respond.
It's no ones fault if I become hysterical -- it's MY fault.
A little accountability from my fellow boomers would go a loooooooooooooong way right now. We need it folks.
Step up and show them what the World's Greatest Generation was all about.

Wholly Mackerel? Finally some common sense.
The collateral damage of the stock market crash will me much more severe and much longer lasting than the virus.
Why are we in this predicament? It's because we all sold our stock. If we had hung onto it, the Dow would still be high and all would be good.

The collateral damage is all the economic damage from companies shutting down operations and events being cancelled. Remember, less than 50% of the population participate in the stock market, but 100% of the population participate in country wide economic activity.

Interesting that I had 2 family members and 2 friends that all had pneumonia about 6 weeks ago. All around 50, Knocked them down very quickly for about 4 days and they all recovered. Never diagnosed as anything but pneumonia.
It’s had to say how long it’s been around and how many cases are undiagnosed or unreported.

The comment was made to affirm the need (or lack of) personal responsibility, and thus was directed at the stock market. Obviously, the Dow is only one of the collateral damages, not all of which are the average person's fault.

My MIL's Assisted living closed to visitors today and that's the only reason we are here.
We have made reservations to go camping at Myrtle Beach. I will try to avoid any contact with anyone for a week, take the same precautions I always take.
I will treat everyone like a grey water hose.

Thank you for speaking up for those who are at risk and likely most harmed by this pandemic. Those with compromised immune systems are not over-reacting, but are following the instructions provided by our health care professionals. If we are infected, we could likely not survive. (our health care professionals warning to us)
We have not gone out and hoarded butt-wipe or bottled water, nor are in a panic state. Instead, keeping an attitude that we can sacrifice a little bit now and help our fellow Americans to avoid spreading this further - is what WE are doing.
Remember - the efforts of these closures, cancellations and restrictions are intended to reduce the spread of this virus, shorten the duration of impact and keep it from overwhelming our society. We are following every recommendation - as everyone else should be.

It's not all bad folks! Cheap gas, time away from work, avoiding people and crowds, and the chance to be locked in a room with my super hot wife for 2 weeks! What's the problem again?

It is very obvious why this has gotten out of hand. A media question at the press conference, "How long will the Emergency Declaration be in Effect"? That is like asking "How long will the tornado warning be in effect".. Stupid question... The logical answer is, "When the emergency/tornado is over"....DUH.....

Your comments are well appreciated. We are of the same mind. However.....
We are retired and don't need a lot. We shop every 2 weeks, and as necessary for things like milk and bread. This was our week for the major shop. What we found was NO toilet paper, NO cans of soup of any kind, very few cans of the staples like vegetables.
My wife is a substitute teacher and the school system is preparing for online teaching. That literally eliminates her income.
So, we didn't hoard. We did all that was recommended. We are almost out of toilet paper and canned goods. We are also not in a panic about getting sick (the closest case is hundreds of miles away) but we are concerned about how to eat and wipe our **** in a few days.
Thank you media and thank you other people. Hope you are happy you hoarded.

Trump declares National Emergency. Stock market up 2000 pts. A lot of WalMarts and Walgreens will have drive thru testing facilities in their parking lots inside of a week. All schools in my area closed till Apr 3rd. My local WalMart has toilet paper!
