Definitely!

How many of you other "OLD FARTS" remember the polio vaccines? We all got those as kids at school in the 50's. Then it was the measles vaccine in the 60's, mumps in the 70's. Now we have the Shingles and Pneumonia vaccines and they all seem to work pretty effectively. Personally I think the sore arm is worth it.

When it's available I'll get it. According to my doctor these vaccines have probably been test more than any in history. You are always going to have some percentage of the population that has a bad reaction. That's the nature of the beast.

If I can remember that far back, I seem to remember two injections, and some odd yellow substance on a sugar cube I had to eat.

The battle axe of a nurse used to punch my arm where the needle was going. She said I wouldn't feel the needle that way. Arm hurt for a week. I would've rather felt the needle!

Never had any problem getting or giving shots. The flu shot a few weeks ago had no reaction in my arm. That nurse knew how to do it, never felt a darn thing.

We will be getting it.
'm not sure which of the 3 will be available to us but we definitely are up for getting this covid year behind us and are following what we read and have relatives who are involved with international health and respiratory problems so we will be informed.

Yep the first one was SALK (shot) then SABIN (oral) which replaced the shot.

Like many people on here I've had shots for just about every disease known, perhaps a few unknowns as well. When my turn comes I'll take it.
Anyone remember the Gun?

The gun, as in what the military used?
I had the gun back in 93. I have no idea what all was in it but it was like 6 shots all in one head. Looked like they had a fire hose connected to it it was so big. I cant remember if it was one gun in one arm or two different guns, one in each arm.

Haven't decided. Success rate of 95 percent for the vaccine and a 98 percent recovery rate from Covid. Not sure the there is a benefit.

As a note, I am over 65 with an implanted defibrillator. I'll have to talk to the electrophysiologist to determine if an allergic reaction could trigger the ICD.

X 2 on all of that and if your sorry a$$ is worried about a sore arm there’s no way you’re going on a 3-4 day hiking trip with us and we’re in our 70s.
We took the Flu & Shingles ( 1of 2) shot the same day last year.

I understand what you're saying but those are two different stats your intermingling.
Taking to your doctor about comorbidities is a great idea!

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have less extra-stuff in them than 'typical' vaccines would have. I suspect mRNA vector based vaccines are here to stay and will become the new normal.

When I joined the USAF in 1961 we were lined up and shot with the earliest flu vaccine I know of. It was administered with a gun that looked like it was connected to hoses that fed the vaccine to the gun. It was shot in with compressed air and we were told not to flinch or move or it would damage the skin.
I remember it hurting but just for a day or so. I have taken flu vaccines every year since and have never had any pain or swelling.

I do remember having the flu once in 1968 or so and it was the sickest I have ever been.

I remember them and thanks for all the vaccines. A sore arm for a day, no problem.

We will most likely get the vaccine. Daughter-in-law got it this week in the first wave, but she’s an ICU nurse. Son should be getting it soon as he’s a paramedic.

I had pneumonia at age 25 and that was the sickest I’ve ever been. I cannot imagine having that now at 67, so I got my pneumonia vaccine as soon as they’d give it too me. Same for shingles. Had that once and once was enough!

We’ve never had a bad reaction to a vaccine. Since they prevent serious medical issues, I get mine on schedule.

I hope to get it but, having had an anaphylactic reaction to an allergy shot a few years ago, I want to make sure it’s safe. The one time I didn’t wait after that shot, it almost got me — a couple of epi pins, other medicine, and some inhalers later, I made it. Never want to go through that again.

Received this link from our allergy practice. Very good read & definitely made wife think about getting one BUT she wants to 1) wait to see how other people react and 2) get it from Moderna Inc.

We'll get it. We have some small concerns about the allergic reaction issue because my wife has enough allergic reactions to have a need to be cautious. By the time we are able to get it, much more should be known about this.

Yeah, that's the one I got in school in the late '60s.

I’m hoping to get it. I feel like I’m playing Russian roulette every time I go to work. As a pilot I’d imagine it’ll be required for me sooner than later. If I do get it, I can’t fly for 48 hrs. Just to see if there’s a reaction.
