Chuck, I just read that Nexus replaced the fuel tanks in their 2016 super C with a single 100 gal tank. This is on an International chassis. Maybe Jayco will notice and make similar change.

Ok, I really appreciated reading all the responders to this thread. I have just purchased a 2015 Seneca 37TS on Sept 10th. We took two short proving run trips to test systems out and everything checks out fine. Put it in the shed and will depart after Thanksgivings for Texas. My main question is fuel range. I will be towing a Jeep Wrangler and drive 65 to 70mph. Is it safe to assume I can make 500 miles between fuel stops? Or should I back that down to 400 miles. What are most of you doing? Thanks for your replys.

Unless I'm running the Genny while travelling, I use 500 miles as my limit - hasn't failed me so far. Mileage doesn't seem to change much when we're towing the Honda CR-V.

Because you don't know what YOUR mileage will be I suggest that you fill up every 400 or so miles until you gain experience. I fuel up once a day, usually at end of day. That way I'm ready for whatever.
How many miles per day do you expect to drive?

I generally drive close to 500 miles per day as I'm running south from Minnesota trying to fine warm weather to dewinterize the RV. After I do that I switch to shorter days..

Assume 9 mpg for planning purposes. 500 miles will consume 56 gals. That leaves you about 20 gals or 186 miles. What are you comfortable with? My copilot goes crazy at anything less than 1/2 tank.

Keep in mind that the pickup tube is not on the bottom of the tank (so as to not pu water and debris that ends up in the tank). How far it is off the bottom and how much capacity that reduces is an unknown to me.
I would be willing to go 500 miles if I know for sure of my full stations.

Hello GreyHawk885,
Could you tell me a little more about why you choose to rent rather tow? What kind of traveling do you do and for how long out? Do you rent a variety of cars?
What would have to change in the way you travel before you switched to a tow car?
Sorry for the slight thread diversion.

Thanks for the information. I have been having these same thoughts as we bought our Seneca last summer, and we have never been able to put more than 48 gallons in at once.

My experience as well, about 48 gallons max with the gauge on empty and the warning light on. I usually fill between 350 and 400 miles. Honestly, I just don't have the confidence to go much further. Some months ago, Freightliner did replace ascending unit to make the gauge more accurate, did not improve anything.

I CANNOT STAND how inaccurate our fuel gauges are! Towing through the Tennessee hills last weekend and up through Kentucky, I had 415mi on a tippy-top fill up, no genny usage at all. I pulled off and could only squeeze in 41 gal between both tanks. I have purchased a Scan Gauge -d, which I hope will allow me to calculate my overall gallons used a little better than our janky gauge. Being someone who likes to strap in and get gone, the whole reason I bought a seneca was so that I can just getit down the road and not stop for bathroom breaks, food breaks, fuel breaks etc.

1500 mile trip @ 10.5 mpg
From north Florida to Indiana and back I was getting over 10 mpg on 2016 senica with less than 1200 miles on odomiter at start of trip.

That's the reason I traded my 40ft 5th wheel, get in and go stop when you please without having to get out of unit.

Has anyone ever heard of a member who took their Seneca to a Freightliner dealer and had the fuel capacity sensor calibrated SUCCESSFULLY? I would be happy if it were just CLOSE to accurate. If half on the gauge meant I had roughly 35-42 gallons left, that would be leaps and bounds better than yesterday when my needle was buried on E, fuel light on and it only took 41Gal.

I have a Freightliner down the road, I'll try to swing by there tomorrow to ask them that question about fuel gushed calibration. Let you all know somethings soon.

I have been to my Freight dealer twice about this issue to no avail.......The best solution I was "offered" was to empty my tanks, add ten gallons and the physically "twist " the sensor so that it reads more gas then before.....however, my fear is that I now may have a false full reading instead of a false empty....

We had that problem with our 2014. After 5 trips to freightliner they finally tested the dash and they found a problem with it. New dash and just a few shorter trips and it seems ok. They put a restricted on the gauge and we had to drive it 150 miles then tell them if the gauge moved. It took a lot of fighting with the local freightliner and calling higher ups to get someone to check something other than the sender. Keep taking it back until they try testing the gauge. The fuel gallons are marked on both tanks around the fill caps. 2014 has a 74 gallons total, one 40 and one 34.

Just had my Seneca in this week for a 15000 service. Had the gauge inaccuracies checked again. They had previously replaced the sending unit which did not fix the problem. A Freightliner rep informed the mechanic to adjust an arm near the sending unit to improve accuracy. I filled both tanks on the way home and will not know if this last fix will help until I use most of the fuel in the tanks. In the past my gauge would read near empty and I could only squeeze in maybe 40 gallons. I sure hopes this improves accuracy.
The mechanic did say he could make more adjustments if necessary.

We would fill up and 50 miles later the gauge was reading 3/4 tank. At 400 miles the gas light was on. Knew we were getting 8.5 to 9 miles a gallon but was afraid to trust that. Never put more than 50 gallons at fill up with gauge on empty

That has almost been identical to my experience. My light would also come on before I had logged 400 miles. I would almost always refuel before 400 miles. Never put more in than 45 gallons or so. As you said, I just did not trust how much fuel I had left. I am anxious to see if this new fix works or at least make the gauge more accurate. I won't know for a while because we have no trips planed for a month or so. I will post results when I know. Sam
