2017 Seneca 37TS front axle oil check

How do you check the oil level? I can see markings for minimum and maximum but since the plastic viewing window is dark, I cannot see the actual oil level. Do you pull the vent plug to verify the level??

Have heard of this (oil lubricated hubs) but have never checked this out on my Seneca. Check out this link, specifically sections 33-05 and 33-07. Definitely need to check this out before my next trip.
