2017 Seneca Engine Noise

Yesterday I needed to start the engine to fill my air tanks and check the auto dump valves. At first there was a chirping sound coming from the engine compartment which turned into a low pitch whine and then to a screeching whine sound. This all lasted maybe a minute or tow then just quit. Anybody ever have this happen or have any idea where I should start looking. The screeching sound kind of sounded like the old cars use to make when the generator or power steering belt was slipping.

From your description, you should have your belt(s) tension checked. IMO, you nailed it and your alternator belt is the culprit.

Mine does the same, it’s the idle pully also known as the belt tensioner pully. Freightliner says it’s normal to hear that sound until engine cold ending warms up. It doesn’t mean that the tensioner is bad.

I experienced the same thing on a cold start Friday; this subsided as it warned up.

engine noise

same noise found out the alternator was charging @15.3 volts and was overloaded. Check your alternator output
