2017 Seneca Tranny Reprogram

Had the tranny reprogrammed this morning and the difference in shift points makes it a pleasure to drive. Only place near me that could do it was a W.W. Williams facility. My local Freightliner shop does not do transmissions. Cost was $288 but well worth it. Headed for Colorado in 3 weeks.

Interesting, last summer while with a group our tail gunner suggested we drive our rigs like we had a manual transmission when we got to the mountains and that worked really well for me.

Last month I took my 16 HJ to an Allison transmission shop and had the shift program redone and the difference was remarkably good. When overdrive is turned off it pulls up to 2700 rpm and then upshifts and starts at 1800 rpm as compared to the previous 1500 start point. Have not had a chance to compare mileage over several tanks full of fuel.

Took our new Seneca (2019 37RB) out last Tuesday for our first trip in it. Went from Mesa Arizona to a Casino/RV park a little east of Globe. Gave us city, freeway, four lane, and two lane roads to drive on. Plus we went from flat land up and over a couple of mountain passes. This gave us a chance to try out all of the bells and whistles as well as run the transmission through its paces.

Tried running the transmission like a manual (push buttons) and the cooling fan came on a whole bunch and it really is very very loud. finally pushed the mode button (took it out of what I call economy mode - for flat land or easy rolling freeways) and that helped. We ran out of road before I figured the whole thing out. On the way out I put the Seneca into performance mode right from the get go. Then downshifted/up shifted as necessary to keep my RPMs up over 2000. This kept my speed up going up and down the hills and the cooling fan only came on once as we crept through Globe.
