Add a Vent

As we all know our front cap bunk areas accumulate a lot of heat. Poor insulation and painting the cap dark colors doesn’t help. This adds a lot of time for the AC to cool down the living area after a hot day of driving. Closing the curtains helps but only traps the heat in the cab/bunk area.

I woke up last night with an “AHA moment”. What if I were to add a Maxxair vent on the flat roof area just behind the front cap? This would help to quickly exhaust the accumulation of trapped heated air and cool the area. It works on structure fires (old fireman) so why not in my Seneca?

Downsides are cutting another penetration in the roof and having to find a way to cleanly run a power source to the fan. And oh yeah, not sure of how it will look. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Ps. Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year.

Only problem will be "no framing" to hold the fan. Unless they've changed your roof is block foam with the luan laminated to it.

I just spoke to Maxxair support and apparently the fan unit is held in place only by the 16 self tapping screws into the roof and not the framing. Thanks for making me check that.
