Aftermarket TPMS

My new 2020 jeep has factory tpms . I’m thinking of adding a tpms to my Seneca 35gs as I had enough blowout in my rving life to do me a lifetime. My problem is can I add aftermarket tpms to the factory wheels of my jeep with factory tpms . The reason for wanting to add the aftermarket system is so I can monitor it while flat towing it along with the 6 of the Motorhome.

Does anyone know if it will work? I’m not sure the aftermarket sensor will receive the temp ot pressure info because of the factory blocking the air from the tire.

Many aftermarket brands out there that will work. The sensors screw onto the valve stems so doesn’t matter. I use the system from EEZ Tire. Dependable and easy to use.

Yep, no problem. I use the Eeztire setup towing our 2015 JKU with factory sensors, just remove the valve stem caps and screw on the sensors. I move the sensors between the Jeep and trailer.

I also have the EEZ tire monitor system. I love it! I did have to use the additional booster in a rear compartment in my 2021 Accolade. Wired it in to a compartment light. We flat tow a 2019 Chevy Equinox, and have had no issue. Would not travel without it!

Tire Minder on both the Accolade and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. No impact on the Jeep’s factory TPMS.

I put on a TST TPMS. It came with a repeater I installed above the hitch of my 37HJ. I also put a sensor on each of the TOAD tires (which has built in ones for itself). I have never had any problems getting pressure or temp from any of my 10 tires.

I have wished for but have not seen TPMS sensors that mount inside the wheel. You will have several choices of valve stem mounted sensors to fit your need though. Be mindful that the stem mounted sensors increase the risk for air leaks (i.e., the Shrader valve is necessarily depressed all the time and all you have is an o-ring seal on the sensor instead of the more reliable Shrader seal design), but you should be monitoring for that pressure loss anyway. Battery life is inferior to the in-wheel sensor, and they are easily stolen.

I installed the 4 sensors on my truck now and they work just fine with the internal sensors that came with the truck. I do see a 1-2 psi higher pressure on the TST sensors which is ok.
I was concerned with the Ford built ins because I could not find out the parameters it used to bring in a alarm.

With my TST507 which I already had, 4 sensors on my rig and 4 left over when I traded up on trucks those concerns are gone and I also don't have to tie up the truck screen with the tire monitor.

I will give it a road test next week when we head out for 6 days.

My valve stem mounted sensors are going on 4 years old. I've never had one leak, never had one stolen from either my truck or trailer, and 7 of the eight have the original battery. I had one sensor go bad after 6 months, but a phone call to EEZ Tire had one sent to me within a week.

I did have metal valve stems put on my trailer wheels when I got my new Goodyear Endurance tires, prior ones were rubber that worked fine for the first year. The stems on my Tundra are the factory TPMS metal stems. Very pleased with my setup.

Where did you mount the TPMS controller? I am leaning toward a RAM ball mount somewhere on the dash. Pics appreciated.

It has dropped only a couple times, but I think that was from me not putting it on correctly. After I put it back up it will stay until I take it back down.

Another vote for the TST system. I just installed them on the RV and my Jeep. I went with the flow thru valves for the RV and the regular valves for the Jeep. I first wanted the waterproof ones for the Jeep but they do not have replaceable batteries. The Jeep has beadlock rims on it with two valves on each wheel so I can still air up and down without having to pull these off. The rim protects them very well so there is no way they will get beat up. I will take them off after each trip.

The TST monitor is fairly bright and easy to read but I could not get the darn suction cup to stick to anything, even the windshield. The spot above the transmission readout would be perfect as a previous poster has. I came up with a spot that worked really well for me... The ash tray! All I had to do was open it up and place some double stick tape on the top and bottom edges of the monitor and it stays in place and is really easy to see.Click image for larger version
