Anybody add remote keyless entry to cab?

It's been a number of years since I used a key to open the truck doors. I would really like to add remote keyless entry to my Seneca cab. Best Buy told me they cannot get the software for the newer Freightliners.

Has anyone added key fob remote entry? If so, what did you use?

Thanks, Mark

I did to my Seneca Mark. I used an AutoLoc KL550 I got from Summit Racing which is just 15 minutes from my home. Here is a link to the item on their site:

https://www.summitracing.com/oh/part...l550/overview/

I have attached the instructions for the KL550, be advised you need to use the reverse polarity wiring method, at least I did on my 2014. But I don't think they changed the wiring much if at all.

I heard that Freightliner was considering moving the lock button from the dash (where mine is) to the doors. Where is/are yours?

If the lock switch is still on the dash I can certainly tell you how I did mine.

Thanks again Robby. The passenger door and dash have a power lock button. I don't think the driver's door has one. I will have to check in the morning. Still no airbags.

I am used to driving my F-150 Lariat which has about every automatic automotive function known to man. The Frieghtliner is a bit different.

Did you yet decide whether to add remote locks at some point? You indicated your unit still has a dash switch for locking/unlocking and I believe that would likely be the easiest place to tie in. I can explain how I did mine if that would help.

Hope your "getting acquainted" time is going well!

Hi Rob

Every alarm place I called said that they need an interface with the computer and they can't find one. I called Freightliner and they could not answer the questions what was needed for the remote entry and they don't offer one. With all the other stuff I have been buying I decided to put remote entry on hold for a bit and bought my wife a spare key to open her door LOL. I think I will take you up on your offer on how you did your locks.

Yes, I am getting familiar with my Seneca. Had some minor wood work repairs. I have crawled around under the unit just to bond with it. I just got my plans for a 48 x 22 RV port for it to sleep in and am starting to get bids on that project. I believe I no longer have to worry about what to do with excess cash, it's all gone

So far I have added:
RVI Brake 3
RVI Tire Patrol TPMS (on order)
ScanGauge D
Progressive Industries PT50X EMS
Multiple shelves in cabinets DW requested
Eye hooks in compartments so I can bungee items upright
Mirror and various art items DW requested
Extra towel rings in bath that DW requested
And other stuff I just can't remember right now.

I really like it can't wait to take our first short shake down ride in the next week or so.

You have been busy!

When you are ready for locks let me know. I am pretty sure I can help. The KL550 ties into the lock switch wiring directly, not into the Freightliner multiplexed system for the actual locking/unlocking. One place I did tie into one of Freightliner's modules indirectly was for the lock/unlock parking/marker light "flash" acknowledgement. The instrument panel headlight switch works by grounding a circuit thereby triggering the module which flashes the lights. Very easy to accomplish with the KL550.

Good morning Rob,

You have me thinking now. How involved was the installation of the door locking unit? The lock button is still on the dash and it looks to me as if I will need to pull a large section of the dash just to get access to the switch.

Thanks, Mark

If I was closer I would come over to help with the deck and then we could do my door locks. And then drink something cold and tell stories.

On a side note, my son invited me to my birthday dinner at the fire house where my Battalion office was located. It was nice to stand around the table and BS. And then it was nice to go home. Six years retired next week
