Auto deploy steps

Trying to make some modifications to the door and screen door ( soundproofing) however I can't reach the top of the door because I cannot get my ladder in place and I cannot do my work while the door is closed is there a way to override the auto deploy steps so I can open the door and they don't come down

There is a switch for the steps auto on/off.

If that isn't producing the desired result, you can open the door, let the steps deploy, and then turn the chassis ignition to "on" (but don't start it). The steps should retract when the ignition comes on, even with the coach entry door open.

Edit: You can also disconnect the power at the harness underneath the steps when they are retracted.

Thanks for your suggestion but neither of those works for me and the power supply connection is inaccessible when the stairs are in there up position also the on-off switch only works to leave them deployed no matter if it's on or off when the door opens they come down

what about pulling the fuse. The fuse is in the battery bay below the cutoff switch, I found this on a different Super C post

I was thinking again, if you can't find the fuse what if you went into the battery compartment and tripped the main fuse for the battery

Sometimes the steps are wired to the chassis battery not the house. Check all fuse panels.

You can also fake out the switch that detects the door is open. They're magnetic, I think, so find out what it needs to be in a closed or open state. They generally work off of the screen door and not the coach door IIRC.

There may be a little magnet attached to the screen door which activates a relay when it is in close proximity, meaning the door is closed. You might be able to trick the relay with another magnet so it thinks the door is closed. Or you could pull the magnet from the screen door and tape it to the relay.

Yes, the evil auto steps, such frustration.

You may find a plug underneath that powers the step motor; unplug that.

I believe that function is powered by the cab battery, if all else fails; you can disconnect the cab battery, but seems a silly resolution.

Mechanically you can disconnect the step motor arm from the step mech underneath, another silly resolution.

Or, as @JimD states; disable the magnet. Maybe place duct tape or whatever over it?

I used one of those multi ladders and just placed part of the ladder on the steps. The ladder allows for one side to be longer than the other...

Also works by putting a simple magnet over the sensor mounted on the inside, the one that the magnet on the screen door aligns with when the screen door is closed.
