Battery Configuration

We just purchased a "new" 2020 Seneca 37K. It sat on the dealers lot for a year. We decided to purchase it despite some issues that we identified and maybe why it was never sold previously. During the PDI with the dealership (Chesaco RV in Gambrills, MD) the chassis batteries were dead. It was a cold morning, but we were able to start up the engine by jumping the house batteries. The dealer promised to replace the chassis batteries and then deliver it to us. When the RV was delivered we noticed that there were no longer 6 batteries in the tray, but only four. The dealer closed for the holidays the next day so we have not been able to address this issue with them yet. Since we are new to motorhomes, we have no idea how the original batteries were configured. I understand that the two chassis batteries should be 12v and connected in parallel. The four house batteries should be 6v and connected in series. Does anyone have a diagram or a picture of how they should have been configured in the tray from the factory? TIA

Are you sure the coach batteries are 6v?

They are for 2021 so it's possible they changed mid year.

That happened when we bought our 2008. Mid year they added a larger inverter and went to 4 batteries and we reaped the benefits.

My 2020 Seneca 37K with a late 2019 build date has 4 6 volt Agm batteries. Two of them would be in series and then both sets in parallel. I have 2 chassis batteries.

They went to four 6volts when they went to the residential fridge in 2019. The configuration in the tray should be the two 12volt chassis batteries in the left back corner and center position, then the 6volts should be all across the front row and the fourth in the right rear corner.

Rustynuts, I see your 2 sealed chassis batteries in back. And noticed the 4 house batteries have a system to add water easily, without removing caps.
Was that factory or a mod?
If a mod, how much rewiring did you have to do to move those big cables?

The watering system is a Profill kit and make watering a 5 minute job. The cables aren't an issue as everything is easy to flex around enough to run the watering hose

Hey Rusty Nuts,

How in the world does one replace the 2 engine batteries without removing all 4 coach batteries?

I removed my house batteries to replace my chassis batteries. Here is my YouTube of replacing them:

Great video! I was wondering though about a couple things: you mentioned that when plugged into 50 shore power, AND the house battery switch inside the steps/door is ON, the inverter will charge the house batteries then also the chassis batteries. I routinely have my 2019 Jayco Seneca 37K plugged into 50 amp shore power in my RV garage, same as you. But...I usually turn the house battery switch OFF at the steps/door when the coach is being stored for any length of time. When I'm doing that, am I preventing the house and chassis batteries from charging?

When you are on shore power your batteries charge regardless of the main disconnect by the door. BTW, the inverter takes 12 volt DC and changes it to 120 volt AC. I believe you were asking about the converter/charge. That is the unit that charges the batteries.
