Blue Ox Tow Bar

I recently purchased an Apollo Tow Bar as I want to tow our full size Ram 1500 4 wheel drive pickup behind our 2018 Jayco Seneca motorhome. I did not relies there would be a difference between motorhome receiver (2") and the tow bar hitch (2 1/2". Is there a solution to my problem or am I stuck with a $2500.00 boat anchor? We live almost 400 miles from the dealer I purchased the tow bar from and just the freight was over $300 and as it was a special order I am waiting to see if they will take it back. So a solution to using the tow bar I have would be a better fix. Thank you and I will await your replies. Thank You Basil

I am not a motor home owner but if you are talking about a ball receiver, the ball sizes are interchangeable.

Sounds like you bought a class V unit and the RV comes with a class III or IV receiver. While going down from a V to a lower unit ( ie 2.5 into the receiver and this then provides a 2" receiver ) there are readily available units, I am not sure if you can go the other way as it could allow someone to pull a unit that is significantly greater than the receiver mounted on the unit is able to pull and carry. I saw many 1-1/4 to 1.5 units on Etrailer but did not see any larger units.

Is it possible to just replace the part that goes into the receiver? you might find that part is a fraction of the cost of the rest of the unit with the lock fittings. It appears to be something that can be unbolted and replaced fairly simply. I would call apollo and see if they can suggest something.

Finally Rustynuts has a great write up on replacing his class IV hitch with a 2.5 class V so he could use the full 12 lbs of towing available.
