Destroying Drawers - Storage Suggestions wanted.

Let me preface this... we follow the guiding principal regarding anything that goes in our RV - Heavy Low -- Light High

That said - we have destroyed two of the drawers in our Seneca by putting a few canned goods in the drawer under the fridge and the big drawer under the dinette Ensemble. Both of them self destructed when we tried to put can vegetables and soup in these drawers. The were not overloaded, but I am on the second catastrophic failure of the drawer hardware now..

We are ready to abandon any notion of having canned goods in the drawers, but want to keep them low, accessible and near the kitchen if that is even possible. oh... and prefer to keep any extra weight away from the dinette/couch slide if possible - it struggles as it is now.

I know if we put such items in drawers we pack them tight as not to roll or bounce around acting like a hammer inside the drawer or use containers with snap on lids like Tupperware to contain things. To keep noise down I resorted to a towel under microwave tray and towels under stove parts, the slide out rack in the oven was worst for noise. I learned to use bungee cords to keep doors closed and things from flying out.

We always secure everything before flying down the road at "Hurricane speeds". We come from a boating background and know that everything that isn't secured can become dangerous or damaging. Its just part of the adventure. Enjoy the ride.

I'm lucky to have a Brother In Law who is a custom cabinet maker. If there's any problem I can have him put in heavier drawers and slides if needed. Most heavier canned good will go in a tote in a storage bin outside. Pull a few out to keep inside as needed.

Retired Woodworker here, if your drawers are anything like the ones in our Seneca, I wouldnt have even put those in a stationary kitchen let alone an RV! The hardware is also inferior Chinese junk. Not sure if you saw my post about rebuilding the pullout pantry's on our Seneca but I would start with using 1/2" Baltic Birch and also use this for the bottom. You can get away with standard butt joint using a good wood glue like Titebond and pinning or pilot and use a #6 screw. For hardware I would use Accuride, most are 100lb rated per pair but you can get heavier units that you may be able to mount to the floor with blocking instead of the sides of flimsy framework.

On both my pantry and tool box project I used Baltic Birch with the construction described above with Accuride hardware
