EMS surge system

Anyone hard wire a EMS system in their coach? If so how difficult is it to install one?

Easy. For my rig, I simply extended the fuse panel from wall, cut the incoming power wires then attached them to the ems input and output then placed the fuse panel back onto the wall. The ems came with attachment screws and instructions. I think it was the fourth campsite when the ems reported low power on one line. I reported it to management and a serviceman came over and fixed the problem before we finished leveling.

In our camper the incoming power wire is in the bath vanity. It was tight to work in there but well worth it. I cut the incoming wire, connected 1 side to the incoming (feed) side on our Progressive unit, the other side to the outgoing (load) side. Mounted the digital readout to the face of the vanity and I was done.

The Seneca is quite different than a travel trailer but still quite simple. You will have a 6/3 Romex coming out of the compartment wall and up to the power cord reel. Buy about a 3' section of 6/3 romex, disconnect the romex from the cord reel an run it into the output side of the EMS. Then take you new piece of romex and connect it from the cord reel to the input side of the romex and mount the EMS on the side or back wall of the compartment.

Honesty, if I didn't already have a plug in the pedestal style ems, I would have installed a permanent one. One less hassel.

I've done a 30 amp and a 50 amp hardwire. The 30 amp was a piece of cake. The 50 amp 6 gauge wire was very tough to work with in tight quarters. It was doable just much more difficult...

Thanks for the pics and description, reel setup looks almost identical to mine, should be a relatively simple install!!!

What Rustynuts said !!!
I used a Hughes Watchdog, love the bluetooth.
Mounted it on the basement ceiling next to the reel.
Yes, working with that big of wire is a PITA.

I'm on the Rustynuts bandwagon too I left the original cable length in case I needed to tie it back into the reel for some reason. Added the 3' cable between the reel and the Power Watchdog and mounted it to the back side of the basement wall. Not a difficult install but the wire is definitely not the easiest to work with.

you mounted it upside down, all of your electricity will flow out onto your basement floor
;-)

All he needs is an electrical catch bucket, and a funnel...
As the electricity drains out to the floor, you catch it in the bucket, and using a funnel, just pour it back into a battery.
No waste, and it keeps the battery charged up.....

Haha wouldn’t that be handy. [emoji23] Photo needs some editing to flip it for sure.

I’ve thought about just cutting the cable short and putting a plug on the end so that I could keep the ems inside and just run a cable to it. Not sure if the extra connections would matter much?
