ISB 6.7 Serpentine Belt

I'm right at 35k miles and I'm hearing a slight chirp. The serpentine belt is looking rather thin and I think I will replace it before my Sept trip.

Has anybody done this job themselves?

Looking at a Gates Heavy Duty belt - K080813HD. Looks much thicker than the Cummins replacement.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I’m about to buy a spare belt to carry. What year is your rig and where did you get the Gates number please?
I’m coming up with a different belt number when trying to interchange the number on the existing belt. 01-32732-445(freightliner part # i think)

Also the same Gates # Advance Auto is showing for a 2016 Freightliner M2. Don't but it from them....about $30 more.

Mine should be here tomorrow and I hope to install it this weekend. Hold-off and I'll let you know for sure.

I got the original number off my belt and it crossed over to the Gates K080962HD FleetRunner Micro-V Serpentine Drive Belt. It is the same length as the original belt. My chassis IS the S2 chassis so they might be different configuration than the M2 chassis Senecas.

I wouldn’t go by any lookup, check the number on your existing belt to get the correct one. This is a pic of mine on our 2018.5 S2 chassis

I took a photo of the p/n on my belt down to my NAPA. They couldn’t cross it over. Maybe because the rig is so new? Maybe not in databases yet. I’ve come up with 2 possible p/n’s, plus a third one from Rustynuts. I think I’ll pick a number, have my NAPA guy get one, then take mine off and see how it matches up. We can go from there.

Found a good web site that gives detailed information on our belts. The first link details info for the M2 106 (based on the Gates K080813HD part number) which is compatible for years 2007 thru 2019. The second link details info for the S2RV (based on the Gates K080962HD part number that Brian mentioned) but only lists for 2018.

When you enter either link, if you leave the vehicle info blank it will list all applications at the very bottom of the page which helps clear things up. The middle of the page gives detailed specs on the belt including cross-reference numbers for several other manufacturers.

M2 106: https://www.stockwiseauto.com/gates-...erpentine-belt

S2RV: https://www.stockwiseauto.com/gates-...erpentine-belt

Looks like the S2RV belt is approx. 16" longer. The M2 106 belt drives the alternator, A/C compressor, water pump and fan. Not sure why the S2RV is 16" longer...maybe someone can chime in.

My belt arrives today and I hope to install it Sat morning. I will give an update.

I went to the local FL dealing and gave them my VIN. I bought a spare belt, filters, water/fuel separator, etc to carry as a spare.

Thanks Javamon. Went to that site, no data for 2021’s yet.My closest FL dealer is a couple hours away. Last time I called there, as soon as I said I had an S2RV chassis I automatically became a dumbass RV owner to the guy on the phone…his attitude changed and not for the better.
He didn’t sound very old. I’ve probably been wrenching on big trucks longer than he’s been alive!

If the serpentine belt is only lasting 35K, you have a problem.

Probably being a little over cautious, but the belt is almost 5 years old and I do have a chirp. I just hope the chirp is not coming from my tensioner.

I worked at a city shop in the ‘90’s. Shop foreman loved belt dressing. Someone would come in with a squeal or chirp, he’d spray it. “There ya go.” A couple times one of us replaced that belt/tensioner later on his day off.

In a Cummins seminar today and they mentioned the belt should be replaced at 5 years whether it needs it or not. They said if you don't replace it at least carry a spare because you can find a mechanic on Sunday but you might not be able to find the belt on Sunday.

My serpentine belt is original. 2007. 65k miles . I check it routinely. Looks like new. I'm leaving it alone. I may buy a spare.

Installed the Gates K080813HD and the install was easier than any car I have done. I had to disconnect the air line to the fan clutch in order to get the belt over the fan. It has a standard compression connector at the clutch hub behind the fan.

No chirp!

Chirp could be from an idler or tension pulley.

It's not too difficult. Remove the air filter lid and lower air filter housing. You'll be looking right at the alternator and tensioner. Loosen the belt and slide it off the alternator. Remove the tensioner assembly, 1 bolt. Remove the belt. Reverse to install. I can give you more detailed info if you need it.

Belts last a lot longer then they used to, but... if it breaks you are doing this job on the side of the road with a scalding hot engine in probably the worst location lol... Assuming you have a spare belt.

I guess I missed this one somehow lol

Also I think I realized its not on a Dodge/Ram but an RV so never mind on the air filter lol

Glad you got it done!

If you put on a new belt and it squeals after a short time and the tensioner is good you might have a pulley out of alignment. I bought a laser alignment tool for pulleys. My old car squealed after putting on a new belt after a few days, I called the repair shop I use in the winter months and he told me about a continental belt made for miss aligned pulleys and it worked for 80,000 miles
